Would you happen to know how one can RECOVER contacts from a backup or SIM? Sorry for continuous questions, but I've lost contacts more than 3 times with phone issues before owning the iPhone. Not really in the mood to hear that I have to start ALL OVER yet AGAIN!
Thanks for any assistance!

The new release of winpwn worked like a charm. Here's what I did for those who are as clueless about this process as I am (why can't it be as easy as iLiberty?). Just to be clear, I am using a version 1 iPhone with the official 2.0 firmware. I am running Windows XP Service Pack 2. I also did not have a SIM card in my phone.
1. I uninstalled all remnants of iTunes (iTunes, Quicktime, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Software Update) and all previous versions of winpwn.
2. Restart the computer and install iTunes 7.7 and the newest version of winpwn. Make sure that iTunes is open as you run winpwn.
3. Go into winpwn and select "Browse .ipsw". I used the file labeled "iPhone1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw".
4. I then selected IPSW Builder. Since I did not have iPhone plan, I selected both Cydia and the YouTube fix. I left custom images and custom payload alone. Under "Advanced," I selected everything - activate phone, no wipe, enable baseband update, neuter bootloader 3.9/4.6 - downgrade to 3.9, unlock baseband and autodelete bootneuter.app. I also loaded the bootloader 3.9 and 4.6 files that people have linked to previously.
5. I then selected "Build .ipsw". This takes several minutes. When the process is complete, I go back to the main page of winpwn and select "iPwner." This will "pwn" iTunes so that you can upload the custom ipsw that you just built. iTunes will shut down.
6. Enter DFU mode on your iPhone. As some people have pointed out, turn off the phone, and then press both the home button and the power/sleep button together for 10 seconds. After 10 seconds, let go of the power/sleep button but continue pressing down on the home button. After another 5-10 seconds, your computer will make a series of beeps, and you should get some notice on the taskbar that your phone is in restore (DFU) mode (or something to that nature). At this point, iTunes will start up.
7. In iTunes, hold down the "shift" button while selecting the "restore" button. It will now enable you to choose the file that you want to restore from. Select the custom .ipsw that you just created in steps 3-5. In my case, my screen went from blank (black) to white. It then took a few minutes for iTunes to restore the phone using the custom .ipsw.
Just a note: last night, I spent 4-6 hours trying to unlock the phone using yesterday's release of winpwn and was unsuccessful even though I followed the instructions fully. I have only used iLiberty in the past to unlock my phone (with the 1.1.4 firmware) so I was wholly unfamiliar with winpwn. Be patient with this release. It took some time to get it to work, but I am so happy to have my phone back!

That's the thing... Something backed up before the Winpwn tool was run. I watched iTunes say it was backing up iPhone before the Pwn restore. I'm just looking to find a way to restore the contacts, or at least confirm that what was on the SIM has not been erased. I tried the "Import SIM Contacts" from the iPhone's Settings, but that seems to do nothing.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
BTW... I selected the No Wipe option.... contacts still gone!

The only thing i dont get is, does this require to pwn ur itunes and your phone? And when i pwn my itunes, should my phone be plugged in, or plugged out? Also when I do pwn my itunes, do i then pwn my phone at its current version 1.1.4? and after all that has been pwned, then do i finally restore my phone with custom firmware? Answer to all my questions would be appreciated lol cause a little bit confused since the previous windows way was just pwn ur 1.1.4 iphone using winpwn, and then restore with custom firmware, but this is saying to pwn ur itunes :S?

Finally figured out a problem, if you are on windows XP and can not open winpwn upgrade your .net frame work from microsoft.
Also Since I have a plan on AT&T for the iphone 3G already all i need is cydia correct?
Also I will be doing my friends phone tomorow he has an 8Gig 1st gen I guess you can say with new 2.0 software. What do I need to do so he can use the phone. He is an AT&T subscriber but not for the iphone. What should I include on his Iphone to get him working?

Ok here is how to freakin fix MOST of your issues. Restore your iphone!!!!! Let apple download the firmware. Go into your c
documents and settings\"Your user"\application data\itunes\iphone software updates and copy the firmware apple downloaded to your desktop. FOR SOME FREAKIN REASON THE FIRMWARE THESE GUYS LINK TO WILL NOT WORK FOR ME NO MATTER HOW HARD I TRY. Now use this firmware and create your custom PWN file. WAHLAH!!!! This worked for me and it will most likely work for you!!!!!!!!!!!! OH THIS IS FOR XP. Vista users should find it in the same place except for its under the c
users directory and not the documents directory!!!

I can't get At&t to work on my jailbroken iphone 3G. Is there something i need to do to enable a service provider on it? All i did was jailbreak it and restore my settings, which i though would do it.
