rock on, I had no choice but to restore before re jailbreaking. This time I unchecked activate and left everything else alone, only checking cydia since the bootlogo thing is down -( it worked, got cydia on there and tested it. 11.5 hrs later, im jailbroken lol. Thank god I have 2 computers. Vista users Good luck, it did nothing but crash on the latest version for me, but xp finally came through! thanks for all the help gentlemen. Now I just gotta figure how to get me some custom boot logo's on there =)

OK so then lets try this...Or ask this please..
When in advanced options...What should i have checked? I am a T-mo user in the Us...The phone i bought from someone it was jailbroke, and running 1.1.4...Dont know if it is 3.9, or 4.6...
Also what state should my phone be in? Should i uninstall all my app's i downloaded with the installer on my phone? Bring it back to factory? then try the build?
I have re-installed the 2.0.0.2 and did the drop to run as xp, even took off account controls from Vista...no go...when i IP tunes it will shut down with error...
SO again what should i check off, i know Youto, cydia, the bootloading immages, then what options? Should i wipe?

Hey guys,
So I've just been reading all along here but haven't had the *bawls* to jailbreak my iPhone 3G because I don't wanna mess anything up since all my stuff is important in there..
Couple of things worth mentioning that I didn't see answers for some of the questions in here that I figured out...
1. There are 2 different Firmware Files to download (1 for an iPhone 1st gen, 1 for an iPhone 3G). When you load each Firmware file, winpwn does say what type of iPhone you should load... There is iPhone1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw (for 1st gen iPhones) and iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw (for 3G)... Notice the 1,2 on the 3G file...
2. The question on why the Advanced Tab has items grayed out and only Activate and no Wipe available to check is the type of Firmware you try to load.. If you have an iPhone 3G, since we can't unlock the 3G yet, the Baseband checkboxes and below are grayed out.. since those items are involved in unlocking the phone.. If you load up the Firmware for 1st Gen iPhones, you see all the boxes available. You will know if you loaded the correct Firmware when you click to browse .ipsw; it says "Make sure you connect an iPhone" or "Make sure you connect an iPhone 3G!"
So that's that.. I went far enough to build my Custom ipsw but don't want to go ahead until it's all done and fixed..
Also a question of my own.. What would "No Wipe" do? If it means leaving the phone at its current state and jailbreaking it, it's nice because I don't wanna have to re-sync and re-set all the settings on the phone.. Or is it something else?
Thanks in advance!

Running Vista Ultim. Followed directions to a T. Downgraded to iTunes 7.5. Did everything suggested in this post. Still not jailbroken. I'm waiting for iLiberty or something along those lines. There are too many bugs in this program.
Great effort. I know it takes time for the developers to do this stuff. Just never works for me.

Do not worry at all about what's already on the iPhone. This is like restoring your iPhone, ALL of the apps will be wiped and you will start anew. (Don't worry about options and contacts, those are automatically backed up on your comp and will be synced back into the iPhone)
I have had no troubles with Vista (32bit), you may need the 2.0 .NET update (get it from Microsoft), run as administrator (if you have that on) and you may want to restart or reinstall iTunes (then restart).
As for options, since you want T-Mobile, don't activate, and it's ok for you to put on the Youtube fix (as that problem only applies to AT&T users). Boot images are entirely aesthetic, it's up to you to use them. Put on Cydia otherwise, what's the point? Without knowing bootloader data, cannot prescribe boot neuter options (some one else may know what to do off the top of their heads).

You need it in DFU mode, NOT restore. Put it in DFU mode (while connected to the computer, the screen should be black, no image) and iTunes should pop up saying it needs to restore, THEN you select the custom firmware
Get 2.0 .NET update from microsoft.Last edited by Jeckel; 07-24-2008 at 08:13 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

your not properly going into DFU mode...
hold top key slide to turn off..
when off hold both home and sleep/wake button (do this for 10 sec ... count) then release the sleep/wake and keep holding home key.. itunes should recognize your iphone... Your iphone shouldnt turn on during this process.. if it does your not entering DFU properly

So, t-mobile user's dont need to check off the activate square on the tool? I though we did for the fact that we could not do it other wise, or this would activate our phones for us?
I guess i'm wrong...At any rate, no matter what file i use, i still get that error when i try to tel Itunes to Ip

seems the problem in vista ive noticed is that when itunes trys to prepare the iphone for restore, the iphone doesnt exit DFU mode. If you use the stock ipsw, it actually boots up the apple logo.......hmmmmmm

A very easy way of upgrading to 2.0
heay guys i tried many guides but i was unable to upgrade to 2.0 using widows. but i found the following guide at iPhone-Hacks.com / Jailbreak and Unlock EDGE iPhone 2.0 With Windows Guide.
in fact i just followed steps 5-end and ignored 1-4 and it worked like a charm. i did not needed to create any ipsw files or anything. so if you just want 2.0 this i think is the most simple way.
the guide is below from their website:
step 1: Use WinPWN 1.0 To PWN Your 1.1.4 iPhone. If you need WinPWN Get it here: WinPwn v1.0.0.3 RC1 Download
WinPWN will ask for an IPSW you should use the 1.1.4 IPSW. Here is the link: iPhone Firmware v1.1.4 Download
Step 2: Install BootNeuter (Available via the classic Installer listed as 1.0)
Step 3: Run BootNeuter and have it Neuter your iphone. The selections you want are: 3.9 Bootloader, Neuter On, FakeBlank Off, Unlock On.
Step 4: Make sure your iTunes version is at 7.7
Step 5: Grab a pre-created IPSW Made with PWNAGE 2.0 Mac. You can grab one here: iPhone v2.0 Firmware Custom Download
Step 6: Grab iLiberty here: iLiberty 1.3 Windows Download
Step 7: Run iLiberty & Jump your iPhone into NORMAL Recovery mode — This is the most straightforward way to get it into the proper restore mode
Step 8: In iTunes Shift+Click the Restore button and find your custom IPSW Firmware file.
Step 9: The restore occurs (You should see a crazy pineapple while its running on your iphone). Then you should see bootneuter automatically come up (this is pwnage unlocking, activating and jail breaking your iphone).
Step 10:Enjoy 2.0 with AppStore & Cydia
NOTE: DFU Mode did NOT work for me and a lot of other people so to be safe stick with normal restore mode.
