i had that error in the begining, all it means is that you are not in DFU mode. Make sure you follow the guide word for word. you are in DFU mode when the screen is still blank and the pwnage tool will tell you you are in it.
i haven't seen this posted yet, but i got my first gen iphone pwned no problem, however, none of the apps i got from app store will work. they just crash. anyone get this problem? How could i fix it?Last edited by popmanbx; 07-20-2008 at 09:52 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

So i did the terrible deed it seems and missed the crucial "option" button holding when i clicked restore. Realizing what i had done, i quit itunes, but the iphone appears dead now and won't work with the itunes restore.
Has this been successfully solved yet?

started with a jailbroken 1.1.4 iphone, not pwned
followed the guide, which was way different than the PwnageTool as it is now, there was no selecting all these options, it went straight to creating the customized firmware file, finished, and finished the whole process but instead of the bootloader screen coming onto the iphone, it was in recovery mode, demanding I connect to itunes.
Now I'm stuck. It's stuck in recovery mode, and every time I try to restore it to a different firmware it gives an error. It's still got the pwnage tool logos/icons.
help please!!!!!

ATTENION WINDOWS USERS!!!! If you can't wait for winpwn, I had success with this method here. It's pretty easy to do. » Pwnage option for Windows Users - iPhone News & Review I take no credit for this, just saying it worked great for me and hopefully for you too!
Try this method out, it worked great for me. Only thing I did different was, I used iliberty+ to put my phone into reg. restore mode, instead of using ziphone. Worked good though, here's the link: » Pwnage option for Windows Users - iPhone News & Review Good luck!!

there you go again like ziphone is why they have issues. Windows users regardless of how u unlocked ur phone, install bootneuter and neuter ur phone before you begin the process. Then get the custom firmware and restore with iTunes. Works like a charm.

Finally jailbroken 2.0 on my 1st Gen Iphone
Success Story !!
I had a jailbroken Iphone on 1.1.4 firmware using Ziphone. I had updated my phone after 2.0 came out.
The original release of Pwnage never worked for me ... they are out with PwnageTool 2.0.1
From their site
Steps followed by me:* It auto-finds the bl39 and bl46 files better, if they’re on your computer
* It creates the ~/Library/iTunes/Device Support/ folder if not present, which should help with some 1600 errors people have been having.
* Many people have reported the PwnageTool not starting up at all (the icon never stops bouncing). This issue should be resolved now.
* The Sparkle AppCast URL is fixed in this version, so automatic updates should work for future releases.
Iphone should not be connected to your MAC for the first few steps.
Select Expert Mode
1. In general tab, uncheck Activate Iphone (if u r on ATT)
2. Bootneuter - Uncheck Unlock
3. Select whatever you want from Cydia Packages. I just needed the Cydia installer and sources and Open SSH of course.
4. Hit Build and save ur ipsw file
After the ipsw file is created, the tool prompts you to connect the Iphone to ur MAC.
5. Follow the steps to get ur phone in DFU mode and simply do a (Option/Alt)+ Restore -- Select ur ipsw and enjoy the happiness.

Ok
Me too i was on 1.1.4 ziphoned 16gb iphone on t-mobile. All the steps went smooth i had a liitle glitch in the dfu part but after that it was golden. then after the phone did the unlock thingy that took about 4 to 5 minutes and phone did not work right. the antenna bars for signal strength kept going up an down to no service and every call i made said call failed. and i though shoot i really broke the phone this time. but then I connected it to itunes and restored it with my last user profile. (NOT RESORE AGAIN USING THE IPSW but restore like poetic said to in the guide sync to make sure all is updated and the run the pwange tool. after retoring everything worked great. THIS GUIDE WORKS!!
Another thing BL-39 and BL-46 bin files were on my desktop as was the pwange tool application. When doing the guides the pwange tool did not ask me to locate the files i think it first looks at the directory the pwange tool application is located and sees the files there If the application or files were in different directories then I think it would have asked to look for it on line or your hardrive.Last edited by catmando; 07-21-2008 at 06:43 AM. I never did ybs bootnuetrr thing, and pwnage never asked me to connect my phone..

DFU Mode is a must. Recovery mode is when you see the iTunes logo and a connect to Itunes with the USB on the screen. I got the same errors in iTunes (6) (1600)... That is because your phone is NOT in DFU mode, it is in Recovery Mode. DFU mode is seen when iTunes thinks you are in Recovery mode, yet the iPhone screen is black. Getting to this mode is tricky, it takes a few times. Try to release the power key just before you see the apple logo, not after. If you do it after, you will be in Recovery mode not DFU mode.
Once you are in DFU mode, the process works JUST AS LISTED>>>>>>>>>"My mind is a raging torrent, fluttering with creative desires, cascading over waterfalls of endless alternatives..."
