er 1st gen, not first ten. Heh. Can't edit via iPhone version of site.
@cspec - you can't type something in terminal to get into DFU mode, haha. That's just to make sure the dir is created.
To get into DFU mode, hold down Home and Sleep until the iPhone screen is dark, then let go of sleep and keep holding Home for a few more seconds until iTunes shows it sees an iPhone in recovery mode. The iPhone screen will still be black - if it's not, your timing was off and you didit wrong. Re-try it.
