Its the lame Apple morons that are to blame but its the devs that can fix the problem we find ourselves in. They do a good job WHEN they release what they do.
There will always be people doing something wrong and bricking no matter how good and how much they test thier software so either release it or shut up about it.

The next thing I want to hear from the devs is "here it is, download it now". Until then, shut up and stop teasing us with a fix that we cant even have.

For the 800 of you who wanted a video, here it is.

This is the command line to talk to your iPhone’s “BIOS” of sorts. It decides what gets run (if it’s signed correctly) or not. Normally it’s very restrictive. Unless it’s been pwned.

Pwnage breaks the chain of trust from the very earliest boot stage, and as the video shows, this chain has now been broken on the iPhone 3G. Given that the only thing lower than this is ROM, Apple will have to change the hardware to prevent us from getting in, and we don’t expect them to ask for your phone back so they can “fix” it.

Please note that this has been anything but trivial, and it wasn’t as easy as porting our old code to the 3G iPhone. Many of our best hackers have been working in long shifts all weekend on this, and continue to do so as I write this post.

Note that this is indeed what geohot was talking about when we first talked to it almost a year ago. It exists because iTunes needs something to interact with when restoring the phone, but as mentioned above, is normally heavily restricted, only allowing Apple-approved code to run.

What does "you can hear the phone working" mean? If the phone is in DFU (restore) mode then it's not working. In order to downgrade properly you can not be using iTunes 7.7. Just uninstall 7.7, install the previous version then use pwnagetool. If you can't figure out pwnagetool then I would advise selling your iPhone and get one of these instead: http://www.jitterbug.com/Phones.aspx

i successfully downgraded a 1st gen 4.6bl originally on 1.1.3 from 2.0 to 1.1.4

and the phone completely works now.

This is my first post, but i cant help thinking there are some very stupid people around here.
When all these people crying out for the 2.0 jailbreak finally get their wish, you can bet your a** they will be crying again about the lack of apps. Its a safe bet my favourite apps like fring, isisk, customize, agile messenger and even isolitaire wont be available for a long time after the JB. these things we all take for granted are the only reason to jailbreak(and the unlock of course) and without them the 2.0 jailbreak will, while much appreciated, be very limited for a while, and its going to be comical hearing all these muppets complain after all the beeching.
Chill folks, why does every fanboy want to be THE first for everything. EVERYBODY is going to have an iphone soon, then there will be nothing to get excited about, i'm even thinking of downgrading to my nokia 1220 for some retro snakeage........
We all know there will be a 32gb version early next year with probable voice calling and at least 5 mp camera, i'm waiting for that.

Bought my iPhone 3G, the longest time i've ever stood in line, 7 hours, it was worth every minute!

It has a few problems, but nothing you can't get over.

The only thing I want is to unlock because i travel all the time . If only ATT would do it for me like it used to with Windows mobile. I do not care about installer, or any programs in it all i need is to use iphone with my 13 SIM card from dif. providers, I do travel 3 times a month.

all of you just need to f*£in be patient because ifortner already has the jailbreak and has had the jailbreak but what all you you don't understand is that you can jailbreak the firmware 2.0 but theres no use for it because most of the installer apps are not compatable with 2.0. Look up ifortner forum and it explains everything about the jailbreak for 2.0 and with 3g iPhones its useless to try and jailbreak it because it won't support installer apps and the apps store apps it bricks
