Firmware Version 2.0 Officially Available iPhone + iPod Touch
Update: The official firmware released today is different from yesterday's early leak. The filesizes of the files are different and there is a minor change in the file name. It is not clear what the differences are yet so stay tuned -- give us a heads up if you discover the difference!
Update 2: The method to fix the ibricks made in the activation process is to leave the iphone plugged in and on for 10-15 mins. Don't close iTunes. Don't touch anything. Just leave it be.
No longer do you have to use our early methods. You can grab firmware 2.0 straight from iTunes update for both the iPhone and iPod Touch.
Sorry touch users, as expected you have the privilege of paying for it dearly if you want to updated to 2.0. What will you get by purchasing? Well you'll get the ability to spend money on apps in the appstore, something iPhone users get for free.
edit: BE CAREFUL while upgrading now, due to the iTunes Store having trouble staying online many users trying to upgrade their first genereation devices are ending up with bricks
thanks ben, frycook

Thanks for the warning. I need to just work until I get a notice saying that it's safe to upgrade and or jailbreak 2.0 for my 1st gen iPhone.

Bleh. "You need a newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support. Run the iTunes installer and reinstall iTunes."
Their advice doesn't work.

iTunes is still telling me that 1.1.4 is the most recent version. I'm still downloading 2.0 from the apple source, but this 20 minute download time is killing me!

I grabbed the update last night before the official release on iTunes. I took my previously jailbroken 1.1.4 (locked to at&t) firmware and restored it to stock 1.1.4, then performed the 2.0 update. Worked like a charm since very few people were hitting the activation servers.
So that's a good warning - with the traffic right now I'd hold off a bit otherwise the update process will hang at activation.
Sounds like you didn't first upgrade to iTunes 7.7?Last edited by editwizard; 07-11-2008 at 11:49 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

When hook ing my iphone up to the newest itunes it was getting the same thing, but I just let it sit for a minute or two and then manually checked for an update and it was there. I'm sure their servers are getting hammered so just be patient.

Hopefully I'm allowed to link, (If not I'm sorry.)because I came across this, if anyone made the unfortunate mistake of upgrading. I can't attest that it works, as I'm way too scared to update.

Slade, I noticed you thanked me. Are you having the same problem? I'm trying desperately to fix this. I thought DFU mode would work. Apparently not

Well you should be able to plug your iphone in, hit update, it'll start downloading the new firmware. At that time there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to unplug your phone while it is still dl'ing 2.0. I used to do that all the time with 1.1.x so I could use my phone while it was getting the new software.
I think I had to wake the phone up with ibrickr, but don't remember why. Should this method not work here also? That way you wouldn't get a 4 hour brick, you'd just let itunes Dl the software while you are unplugged from it.iMac 27" i5 quad 2.8Ghz (1TB), MacBook Pro 17" 2.6, iPhone 4s
