06-17-2008, 04:24 AM #1Hedgewars - Coming soon to iPhone/iTouch
As some of you may or may not know, the Hedgewars team is working in collaboration with Zodttd to bring their game Hedgewars to the iphone platform. What I wanted to do is give you some information on Hedgewars, and hopefully get you a little excited about its eventual release.
So What is Hedgewars?
Hedgewars is a turn based, multiplayer, strategy game based on the ever so wonderful Worms Armageddon. In Hedgewars players take it in turns to control their team of hedgehogs, wielding a variety of wacky weaponry in order to annihilate the other team(s)! You can try the windows/linux versions over at Hedgewars (although we have progressed greatly from the current official release.)
Hedgewars on the iphone will hopefully implement a fun and innovative control scheme. Utilizing all the features of the iphone, finger movements will control your hedgehog, taps and swipes will control your weaponry, want to alter the angle of your parachute drop? Just tilt the phone!
So what's a thread without media, well I have some pictures for you here:
The completion of the island theme
The nature theme
A fun map
Some additional shots:
Beginnings of a city theme
The snow theme
Shameless self promotion map
The beginnings of the island theme
I hope this interests you guys.

how hard will it be to control seeing as the screen isnt very big and we might have to pick small stuff, will there be zoom or something?

Hi guys, to answer some concerns.
If we get the app into the app store, obviously there will be a fee. But if that does happen I want to release it free via installer along side the app store release for those people brave enough to jailbreak their iphones.
The movie above is taken from the PC version, I'm absolutely horrible at making movies, and was playing at a high resolution at the time, hence the tiny pictures that you can barely see. Rest assured the game can run at any resolution and will look nice and crisp, easy to see and easy to use on the iphone.
The controls should be fine, aside from roping, the movement in hedgewars is relatively slow, games rely more on forethought and strategy than twitch movement gameplay and I've been planning the touch screen controls for some time to make sure they're comfortable and not following the gimmick over gameplay trend!
It's great to hear your enthusiasm.
We're hoping to keep the network play present in the iphone version, so hopefully soon enough I'll be playing against some of you guys online!

I don't care if it costs me $20. If it's good quality then I'm in!!! Worms single handedly almost cost me my college career and if this is just as good who's to say I won't lose my job!

does anyone know the name of the song playing in the preview video? or does anyone have a link to that app called Listen that came out a looong time ago which acted like the Verizon Song ID thing. if i could get that program i might be able to hold my phone to my computer speakers and get the song name with that. i believe erica sadun made it(?)....i just figured out the melody on guitar this would be a great/funny song to play while someone is adjusting their equipment in some way, or in the background if someone is making an announcement for the bar or really anything that results in downtime during a show....the game looks cool though
