Be aware that it is uncompressed AVI only I believe. Just if something has an AVI extension does not mean it will work. A .avi file can be dixv, Xvid amongst others.
More on topic, WOW! This is a hell of a feat, and makes a donation well deserved. Zodttd seems to never sleepLast edited by alex1015; 06-04-2008 at 11:31 AM.

.avi is a container not a codec.
many codecs can be .avi

if all .avi codecs are supported this will be the best app for the iphone ever. It means I can download video straight off the internet and watch them right from my phone. No having to transfer files to the comp and convert them to mp4 and copy them back! We are one step closer to the ultimate laptop replacement that fits in your pocket! I can see devices like this being used like laptops were in the mid 90's in the near future.

I have the newest version 0.80 and everytime i put a meg, or avi or mpg into the vlc folder, it plays the sound of the video but does not display any picture. Is anyone else having this problem? However when i put a MP3 into that folder, it plays the music perfectly.
Can anyone help???

I'm having the same problem. Apparently he's adding more codecs.

Just because a file has an avi extension doesn't mean it will play. The avi extension has a bunch of different codecs. I'm guessing that once he gets DivX support it will play a lot more files and even more as codecs are added.
Read back a page for alex1015's post. It explains it in simple terms.

Just downloaded the new version. 0.9.0. I just tried to play an xvid .avi movie. The video played extremely stuttery, like a frame or two every 10 seconds. The sound played alright. A little choppy in places but also very low. Much lower than in the native video player. This app is improving quick! Keep up the good work.
Hopefully once he has all the popular codecs implemented he can integrate proper controls, landscape view with accelerometer transition, etc. An option to listen to movies while the apps sleeps, do other things, and then reopen the player would be nice as well. (my wish)
This is easily the best app ever created for the iphone! I plan on making a generous donation once it's finished.-----------------------------------------------------------

i have the new version9.0 something anyway i uninstalled it way to buggy now and it does not play in landscape. i love zods work but no landscape for movie then i dont want it. i have vlc for my mac and its the best. mplayer is soon to be better. it plays in landscape, controls are smoother just needs to play movies better and not choppy and it a go. updates will come soon to mplayer cause the demand for this app is pretty high. as i know of you can play alot of formats. just not quiet ready yet. but very soon it will be.

If this can support divx, xvid and wmv files and incorporates the use of the accelerometer, you will be looking at the best app ever released for the iPhone.
Once the support for the above codecs and files happens. I will be donating for sure to test this app out.

And now, that is a really good reason to jailbreak my iphone! I'm really looking forward to the public release! Keep up the good work!
