iMapIDLE - simulated PUSH email on the iPhone

iMapIdle , a new iPhone app, simluates PUSH email using your IMAP email account.

From their site, here's a feature list:

listens in the background waiting for new IMAP mail even if you are in sleep/standby mode
notifies you via a popup and/or sound. You choose how to be notified. Sound notification should use the same method your mail client uses (ie: if you have vibrate on, it'll vibrate as well)
popup notification allows you to choose whether the mail client should check for email right there. NOTE: Don't choose this if you are in the mail client as it will exit (you've been warned). The popup will disappear after 20 seconds and if you miss it the iMapIdle icon will show you how many popup notifications you have missed
supports SSL connections and special support for GMail IMAP

i installed per instructions on the site....i click on the icon..... and i get the logo fullscreen for a moment...then get booted back to the springboard.....

Did you check to see if the permissions are set to 755 or 777 on the app? (SSH in, right click on the file, and check properties.

I can get the program to run but wont show any notifications...what port do we use for gmail? I already deleted the default which I think was 143

Since we're looking at email on the iPhone...is there any way to port a mail server to that platform? Postfix? A localhost mail stmp would be a huge benefit when on the move.

Anybody got any ideas on this one?

i receive the notifications, but when i press 'check' nothing happens. Is it not supposed to load Mail?

Same thing happened to me. Perhaps just a bug, but the fact that it let me know a message was there is enough for me for now. I have it set up on my gmail account and it works wonderfully. Overall, great app thus far!

My main concern is how it will effect battery life as it says it keeps the edge/wifi connection awake when the phone is in sleep mode. Just have to use it and see I guess. And perhaps carry my charger for the first day, just in case!

i'm confused though....

it works like it is supposed to, but why bother with a notification sound and popup asking you whether you want to check mail? shouldn't there be the option to have it automatically check mail when it receives something? this way, you will get mail's notification, and the new mail waiting... this way is just extra steps.

works like a charm, though. reports on battery usage effects would be nice.

i cant get it to work i sent myself test emails and i didnt get any notification.. do i have to change the port or something i have gmail..and yes activate is on with permission on 755..

ok nvm it works now i had to put in port number 993, i dont know what happened but it works one thing if u reboot u have to turn on activate again..i hope in the next version we can view the email.. Also when u get an alert when on sleep mode it wont wake the phone up thats cool i guess but the thing i dont like is that when u missed an alert it shows u how many u missed but u have to open it to make the badge numbers go away then close it then open ur email to read ur mail to many thing s to do just to know u have mail... i guess i live with it till it gets better ..

I've set it up to reconnect every 10 seconds. Going to give my phone a full charge and see how this setting impacts battery life. Will report back today / tonight.

Will this IMAPIDLE work with a virgin iphone 1.1.1?

No, you need to be able to install it. In order to do that, you need a jailbroken iPhone.
