Poetic - in " Unlocking the 1.1.1 iPhone anySIM" you tell people to ssh into the phone with the pass "dottie"
is this right? I'm sure the 1.1.1 pass is "Alpine"

SUCCESS!
I am now using an unlocked iPhone with T-Mobile.
My only last question would be... has anyone figured out the "carrier services" setting within the phone settings page? That was the only thing that didn't carry over for me. I used cyberduck to look at the new files that had replaced the previously modified files, to see if i could update them and they are way different from 1.0.2.
Has anyone figured that out?
theliksta,
I deleted the anysim app via Independence. It didn't seem to make any difference, besides making for a cleaner looking springboard.

Followed the guide to the letter. Unlocked and all was running well for 2 hours.
Made and received calls intalled apps etc.
Then I received a SMS, I tried a couple of times to open it but kept returning to the home screen.
I attempted to restart the iphone and ended up with a brick??
In the process of restoring to 1.0.2 (hopefully) not sure if I'll attempt to upgrade again.
Anyone experience something similar?

ok solved my issue.
reloaded the .plist (launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist)
rebooted the phone got my operator logo back.
ran through the process again with this time doing
launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist
everything went smoothly

Please can someone help! I followed the virginizer and anysim etc, and succesfully upgraded my phone to 1.1.1,working fine. Then out of the blue while connected to itunes,a message telling me the phone needed to be restored.i did this and now i have the itunes screen with the at&t logo saying the sim card in this iphone doe snot appear to be a supported sim card, and on my iphone screen it says activate iphone.
I only upgraded from 1.0.2 because poetic folly is trustworthy and put up the guides which said worked fine and did for 1 hour, but now when i open independence 1.2.5,and try to activate or jailbreak, the message "error, you need to downgrade to version 1.0.2 the special upgread to 1.1.1" Im really unhappy with this as ive put time and faith into the guides on here and now i have a brick that i have no idea what to do next with.
could someone please help me,and not ignore this?
I am due to go on a business trip in 3 hours and need my phone.
Please help
Very Disillusoned

@ theliksta
The restore wiped out the jailbreak and fake-activation. As independence says, you need to downgrade, set up the symlink (the pre-upgrade step) and re-up to 1.1.1. Sorry, not pretty, but should work if you still have the time.
The only other way is to follow one of the other jailbreak guides that use the TIFF bug to do it all on 1.1.1. I know there are Intel Mac and Windows apps that will do this for you.
