iPhone Graffiti - HWPen brings handwriting recognition

Originally posted here, Hanwang.com.cn has developed a handwriting recognition app for the iPhone.
Still in beta, Latin and Chinese characters are both recognized, and the input is currently done with the finger. Of course you could also use the Pogo Stylus or TapRight as well, if you're more of a stylus folk.
Currently, the only way to get HWPen is to add iphonecake.com/src/all as a source in your Installer and grab it from there. I have emailed them to see if they'd like it hosted on our Community Source and Cydia as well, so hopefully you'll see it there as well soon.
Many folks come from Palm OS handsets, and have fallen in love with their graffiti handwriting recognition, and miss that when they come to the iPhone. HWPen, while still in early stages, could fill that gap as well for the people who just can't live without their handwriting recognition.Note: this is a beta version, so backup your /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.SpringBoard.plist before you go! just in case...

I tried it, very cool. Seems there's a problem when trying to handwrite a number....I've tried the zero but keeps giving me R or C symbols.

ATTENTION: UNINSTALL CAUSES SPINNING WHEEL OF DEATH!
Only fix: SSH to /System/Library/LaunchDaemons and delete new "com.apple.SpringBoard.plist" and replace with your backup!A*obe CS3 by ubik "teh CS3 iPhone theme":

great, for me the numbers all of them are working well, just that must scribe one or two digits in a time no problem with 0.
The letters are bit slow cant recognize more than single entery at a time.
neverthless great app.though if it supported landscape would have had more space to write.I sent notes through the email on my Iphone took couple of seconds to recieve it.
jack.
Just noticed that the Search button disappeared from the Wedict application, but Return does it.Last edited by babikian; 04-16-2008 at 07:15 AM.

I installed this but it doesn't appear anywhere in my app list. How do I find and use it? I'm on firmware 1.0.2.

Is the Uninstall bricking the phone? or just causing you to have to restore and start over?

There is no icon, as you can only activate it when you use an app requiring the keyboard.

I like the program, but was buggy for me. I see a lot of potential.
It is kinda slow. I think that might could be sped up in the future.
The numbers worked just fine for me.
This is wierd. When I was using an app with the regular keypad, I couldn't type in an upper case H. They always came out lower case. I don't know if I trained it that way when I first started playing with it or what. I think there were some other letters that wouldn't type in upper case. After I uninstalled the app they type in just fine.
Uninstall did give me the spinning wheel of death. I played with the sleep button on and off a few times and it finally came around to working.
For a beta program, it's not bad at all. I hope they keep refining it.
