Between that and dpkg, you really don't need Cydia (though it makes things easier). Both APT and DPKG are installed on every jailbroken iPhone by default (not apt-get though--that one does have to be installed separately).

--OT: Might as well just restore, I think we're all in agreement now.

restoring as I type.... fingers crossed. Sure hope I can locate the contacts again once it's done. she's only downloaded 4 apps, so don't really care about losing those. all free and can easily be re-added.

As long as the phone has been synced with iTunes, you will get contacts back once you sync after the restore.

    Default Fix without restore!!!
Apologies for not seeing this in time, but there is a solution without restoring!!

    1. Open Safari
    2. Open a new window
    3. in the address box, type "cydia://" (WITHOUT QUOTES)
    4. press go
    5. Cydia will open!
    6. Then you can delete and reinstall Cydia and mobilespy to unhide them.

P.S. just reinstalling or removing mobilespy will NOT work. idk why.

It will not harm your jailbreak, so yes, it's fine.

It's all done. I sure hope all of the cydia stuff is just gone now. Since I couldn't access it before, I guess I cant check to see if it's gone now, but I will assume it is. AND all the contacts came back. YAY! Thank you all so much for your help and your comments. I was stressed - but all is well.

me too! All the problems with data usage and battery drainage seem to be fixed too. I consider myself technically inept, so pretty proud of myself for not totally ruining something. it was all quite smooth! YAY! and this is a great forum - such helpful people. I'll keep it handy!

    Default Same Issue on iPhone4
    Hi,

I am having the same issue with MobileSpy on an iPhone 4 with tethered jailbreak for 6.0.1 (MobileSpy is compatible). I followed the MobileSpy installation instructions carefully and after rebooting tethered at the end the "*12345" no longer worked to bring up the software, Cydia and MobileSpy icons were lost, and the logs would not upload to the online portal (the Live Panel did work, albeit very slowly).

I did not see this thread in time so not sure if the "cydia://" in Safari tip would have worked, but I ended up doing a full restore.

As a tip: backup your phone to iTunes before attempting to install this, in case you have to restore.

I will contact their support to try to get to the bottom of this.

Just wanted to post that accessing cydia from the browser works. The icon is still hidden, and *12345 does not seem to work. The only way i got it to work is if i re-booted tethered and then dialed it immediately after boot, twice directly after eachother.
