    Question New to Dev / Need help

    Ok heres the deal, I have recently become interested in developing and downloaded the iPhone SDK about an hour ago. Before I dive in i have a few pressing questions...

    1. My phone is currently jailbroken and must stay that way (T-Mobile user) or i will be without a phone. Is it possible to develop using it as my primary testing device without compromising the JB?

    2. When i downloaded the SDK it came with iOS 4.0.2 aswell as 3.2 as the only firmware choices. My phone is currently on 4.0.1 (because of JB status). Will i run into errors or completely screw up my phone if I try to test on it ? Also is there a way to put 4.0.1 on the SDK even after distribution of 4.0.2?

    worst case is i will sacrifice the JB on my ipod touch to allow for testing but only was a worst case scenario

    1. When you don't want to pay 99$ fr Apple Developing program, you NEED to have a jailbroken iDevice. Otherwise you can only test in simulator. The SDK and the testing won't harm the Jailbreak.

    2. In XCode you can compile the apps for nearly all Firmwares, including 2.2.1, 3.1.3 and 4.0.2. (and of course for 4.0, too).
    I have to say that I dont have the newest SDK as I only have Leopard, but this is how it works in XCode for 3.1.3.

    and what i meant specifically was when using the iPhone Sim the only firmwares i could select were 3.2 and 4.02.

    In XCODE

    Go to project--->edit project settings

    click the "build" tab

    scroll down to deployment and find "iPhone OS Deployment Target" on the left. Change the value on the right to the minimum OS version you wish to support.

    Good Luck.
    Due to budget restrictions, the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off.
