4.0: iPhone/iTunes stuck on "Restoring iPhone from backup..."

Help needed.
Upgraded to 4.0 flawlessly. Backed up first, went into DFU mode and upgraded to 4.0.
I can use the phone but would appreciate my old contacts, ect, synced back on. iTunes is currently stuck on "Restoring iPhone from back up..." with the progress bar looking like a candy cane and the estimated time remaining ... with no time listed. Been like this for awhile. I tried restarting both iTunes and my computer. I tried restoring from a previous back up and no luck. I am using 9.1 iTunes. Any help?

ETA: iPhone not saying that it is in "sync" mode. Can use it as it is. Is this an iTunes problem?

Sometimes restore files get corrupted

An Mac Genius, told me that if I experience a lot of app crash to restore firmware and setup as a new phone. He said do not restore from back up.

Try restoring with 4.0 again.
