iphone as a usb webcam?

why is this so impossible, we can use the iphone to record video, and can tether it to a laptop, so why not make it able to use as a plug in webcam... sure theres qik, but its extreamly slow for me and wont let me use it as a webcam for skype etc. anyone have any ideas?

There is an application out there called iWebcamera .. you can purchase this through iTunes Apps for $4.99. From there website, install a small client software on your system and poof .. you now have a webcam.

I have this App and Client .. am able to use it in all chat clients with no problems.

Per drahtwerk's website .. iWebcamera 2.0 has been completed and submitted to Apple for approval for posting in iTunes .. alot of new enhancements have been made to the original 1.0 version to include more for the iPhone 4.

I just downloaded iWebcamera and was a bit disapointed that it requires Wifi. Why can't it just use the usb connection.
