memory Iphone 2g

Hi.. I'm wounding if there is any one that would be able to help me i have a Iphone 2g, always had it i have gone from 1.1.1 jailbreak unlock to 3.1.2, and now having a problem when i connect my iphone 2g 3.1.2 Iphone to Itunes it only stats 7.1 g capacity and this is a 8g Iphone wanted to see if there is any one that would know how this happend and how i can stop it from losing more memory or get back my old memory i have tried to restored it again no luck can any one help?

u r not loosing memory.. its the system files that is takin up more space now
