Default How can you by mistake update via iTunes?

Hey everyone, great forum so far.

All right, now I've been reading on different forums that includes the topic jailbreak & unlock, and saw that alot of people updated their iPhone trough iTunes by mistake.

I just bought an iPhone with the 3.1.2 firmware pre-installed so I have no idea of what an update via iTunes is.

Does it automatically install the new firmware as soon as you plug in the iPhone or what? How do I by mistake update my iPhone?

And, what can I do to prevent something like update my iPhone via iTunes?

I thinks it's good to clear some of these things out. Because what most of you guys know by now is that a new unlock to the 3.1.2 is coming(iboot 05.11.07).

So what can I do in the future to not unintentionally update my iPhone, because I still want to sync my iPhone with iTunes so that I can transfer songs and videos.

Thank you very much in advance.

iTunes will pop up when you plug your phone in....you will auto-sync...if there is a new firmware you will get a prompt that will ask you if YOU want to upgrade...it will not automatically do so...some people "by mistake" hit the upgrade button or they have a problem w/ phone and have to restore ....I myself turn off my iTunes auto-sync..I only want to sync when and what I choose......good luck to ya!

There is an auto sync option on the main iTunes home screen near the bottom. Make sure you unmark this option. The phone will be recognized when plugged in and this is where the problem starts. Choose to sync on command.

iTunes will want to auto sync when you restore as new, which I cancel right off the bat.
