there has gotta be a way to figure out how to fix the Charger issue. not being able to have "Gen 1" chargers charge the iPhone.

I believe that I've read before that some of the accessories like that work for a few moments, and then say they're not supported, even know they were working initially. This is due(most likely) to Apple wanting you to buy their latest accessories, and can probably be overcome by a SpringBoard class hook for handling accessories.

Its a different hardware configuration. The pins in the connector are routed differently. So no you wont get them to work.
