Problem with AT&T data plan

To all great gurus. I have a 3G 3.0 firmware, jailbroken and unlock. Works great in Afghanistan on all there sims,

back in states foe short time and pick up a AT&T data plan pay as you go. iPhone sees and reed sim but there is no data transfer, it wil try but then will boots off. 3G on, data roaming on.

I've read all night and can't find fix A little help please. Also would it be easer to go to TMobile instead?
