Officially the SDK is Intel Only.

Unofficially, it Works on PPC.

By Default, if you have a PPC Mac, the iPhone portion of the SDK will not install. The installer will just install Xcode 3.1.

You can manually install the Aspen Packages and Voila ( well almost voila )
you too can compile iPhone Apps and run the Aspen simulator.

I seems that they decided to exclude PPC as an after thought since Aspen Simulator is a Universal Binary.

Seriously?! I thought I would have to buy a new Macbook, I use a old PowerBook G4 most of the time for development.

Ok, so I'm installing the iPhone part of the SDK right now on my PowerPC mac.

I've figured out a pretty easy way to install, a simple mod to the iphonesdk.dist file allowed me to do the install within the installer. It appears like I was on a intel mac.

If anyone wants instructions, I'm not to good with the terminal but I think this is how you'd do it:
1.) download this: http://fs09u.sendspace.com/processupload.html it's the modded iphonesdk.dist files
2.) save that to your desktop
3.) mount iphone sdk disk image
4.) Terminal code:
$ cp -r /Volumes/iPhone\ SDK ~/Desktop/
$ mv ~/Desktop/iPhoneSDK.dist ~/Desktop/iPhone\ SDK/iPhone SDK.mkpg/Contents/
5.) run the installer.

Or in other works, copy the iPhoneSDK.dist file into to the installer package and replace theirs. Which can only be done when it's not in a read only disk image.

No idea if this will actually help anyone.

Hello, I believe I have some info regarding this. I believe to have compiled a working iPod/iphone app yesterday on my ppc tiger computer. I cannot get the emulator to work yet but I will be giving it a try soon
