Contacts
Is there a way to save your contacts so you don't have to type them in all the time every time you restore?

Sync them to your PC/Mac or download the database file from your phone using SSH.

If your contacts are saved on your PC in Outlook (for example) then you can still let itunes sync them over.

Well. Lately I've been going back and forth between 2.2.1 and 3.0 beta 2. I don't use Outlook and my iPhone isn't jailbroken. Is there an easy way to solve this?

You dont have to use outlook or outlook express....but thats where itunes stores your contacts or vise versa.
If you want really easy....do what I do, use MobileMe....it will sync your contacts over-the-air instantly. It also costs $100/year.
Thats pretty much your choices. But Itunes should automatically sync your contacts over if you at least have outlook installed. Pretty simple.

Windows by default has a address book. Just use that to manage them.

Yea. I have tried to use Gmail and Windows and the Windows address book is the easiest. It will save all the info in your phone contacts to your computer and if you restore your phone, you simply check check the box on the new one to sync with windows contacts and they go back. Only thing I have noticed is that when you sync, your address book on your PC has a username of the members on your PC which will show up on your phone. You can delete it in both places as its not needed.

Oh, if you have a Google account and sync with it, you get any email address showing up in your phone book anytime you send an email which is annoying.

No problem. After I bricked my phone once and had to restore and type them back in, I quickly found that works the best. You can also sync contacts to ANY computer even if your music is not synced with that one. It makes it nice when I have my work laptop and home laptop.
