Buying a mac...

Hi, I'm a total newbie at this but here goes!
Just downloaded the SDK for iPhone but can't find sys reqs.
I have an old-ish G4 running OSX 10.3.9, can I use this/upgrade the OS or do I need to go shopping for a newer machine? If I really need new hardware, what's a good size to buy? I've always fancied a pretty mac laptop...but they're a premium product for someone used to buying PC bits and definitely not used to buying at the front of the curve
Hope someone can help me out.

The iPhone SDK only works on Intel based Macs.

If you are just buying for development, I recommend an Mac Mini for price, an iMac if you have the room (separate systems are nice) and a 17" MacBook Pro to be portable

I have a Mac Mini with the small hard drive (60GB?) and it is ok so far - no real development done, though. Recommend avoiding the Mighty Mouse at all costs - too annoying.

Having more RAM is probably the most important factor - at some point I plan to upgrade to 2 or 4 GB of RAM.

My main issue with the mighty mouse is the right-click being based on only touching the right side of the mouse.

As a (very) long time Windows user (I haven't used a Mac since the original Mac 128k), I am used to having two fingers on the mouse at all times, and pressing left or right buttons as needed. On the mighty mouse, I always get a left click when I press the right side, since my forefinger is on the left side of the mouse and it can't differentiate which side I am pressing.

That plus the incredibly annoying acceleration curve means I use my Logitech MX1000 with my Mac Mini.

OTOH, sharing one monitor with my Mac and PC gets confusing when I forget which keyboard is which computer (even though they are totally different) or forget to swap wireless mice.

I use my Mac Mini with my 27" Samsung LCD in analog mode and it looks pretty good (DVI is used for my PC).

I prefer the 27" to the 30" for the lower dpi.
