restrictions on free apps

ok - i'm a developer exploring options of a free app on the app store. i saw an audi app and a chanel app - and it was obtainable 'free'

question is if anyone knows if apple is charging some sort of advertising fee for something like this.

good question. I am not a developer but would be interested in an answer to this.. I'm sure there is an answer on there website. If not they have great online chat support. My guess would be that they do not charge you on a free application. Think of your free application as a sample at a store. It attracts you to the store, you try it, and you say "hey applications are cool! I wonder if the paid ones are even better!" and in turn you spend some of your cold hard earned cash on an app. I believe Apple only makes its profit on the paid apps in the store charging developers (30% or 40%-dont quote me here) on the apps total sales.

yep. I'm on the same page as well. I guess this opens up new doors to branding.
