Man, finally found someone who word for word has diagnosed my wife's phone issues. When you hack an iphone (I have been doing it since 1.1.1) you automatically think that when the phone craps out that it is something with the hack or an instability issue with modding in general. However, we have been running on 2.1 quickpwn for a long while and all of the sudden my wife's phone just started acting weird. First, it wouldn't charge/sync to the computer. Then the speaker and entire audio crapped out. Then the home button quit working. Well, the only way she could bring it back to the apple store was to have it stock, right? Well, I could still SSH into the thing, so I made it as stock as possible, only quickpwn changes the darn boot logo and recovery or DFU image as well. I used logome in cydia to get the boot logo back to the stock apple instead of the pineapple, but I cannot figure out where that darn cartoon of steve jobs saying "npebea!" is at!!!!

Also, I figured it was a hardware issue because my wife said ******* it! and started banging the thing on the bar and, shazam!!!! the home button started working again!! However it still will not connect to the computer or itunes so I cannot restore it to factory. It will charge from a wall/car charger just fine, but not the computer!!! That just doesn't make sense to me.

Anyway, should I take a shot at bringing it to apple and if they don't take it back, maybe you could get it fixed for me? She can make calls and the person can hear her, but she cannot hear the person on the other side. Let me know, I'll shoot you this message in a PM as well. Thanks

I'll try that. Hey, after I posted here last night, I figured the flex cable or something is going bad or losing solder connection because I plugged it in to the computer again and started tapping it (lightly) on my desk on the bottom corner of the phone and all the sudden it connected to itunes, started charging, phones sounds came back and all!! So to my amazement I gently set it down and started a restore only to have if fail 1/4 the way through and lose connection again! Now I am back to where I was with no audio and no sync/charge through computer. I'll just do a reset and have my wife bring the turd back to apple again and let her do her thing and get a new one (she's good at that, ha ha!). If they don't take it back, I'll ship it to ya for a good ol' fashion fix er up!! Thanks

Electronics are not like electrics. The parts on the flex cable are several SMD's and SMT's. If they fail they can come and go, but are still bad.

ok, i got an iphone from fred durst's brother (yes, from limp bizkit) he tattoos at the same shop as me.
anywho,
NONE of the audio works.
i.e.
i did the test to see if the screen goes black when placed to my ear (thinkin it was still in headphone mode) but it works fine.
so i know its not the headphone sensor.
and the earpiece works fine.
headphones work too.
just no audio through the external speaker.
so you are saying, i can send my phone with a $10 replacement speaker to you and you will replace it, for a tip?
what about return ship?
more info please.

You have no idea what the problem is, and neither do I until I see it.

Ironic though, I've spent years hitting the mute button when I hear limp bizkit........

Well thank ya. I hope people still read it. There's only 2 sure ways to get a thread ignored. Make it a sticky or make it a Wiki guide.

Ok I have 2 useless iPhones that I want to combine to make one working iPhone...
One has a busted screen that is cracked, but doesnt respond to touch. Other than that, it seems to work like a charm. You can call it and it will recieve calls. You can sync it and load firmware on it. But the screen and digitizer are toast I guess.

The other iPhone has a perfect screen, but somehow it the phone will not work. At first it was just a message about the phone will not make or recieve calls.(working fine then out of the blue its crap)... says to contact apple for repair. I tried restoring, and the first time it took a custom firmware which runs bootneuter to unlock for tmobile.. well it froze in bootneuter. 20 mins gone. Had to hard reset. Now it wont take firmware. It would go about 75% then give me error 1011... now since 2.2 came out it wont restore at all, and gives me error 23.

Called apple and they swear its software based, but I talked to you and you said its hardware. Ill go with what you said being an electronics tech as opposed to a telemarketing tech CSR, and also I feel like Ive tried everything.

I was trying to follow your advice and swap out the motherboards, but after obsessing and watching youtube videos tryin to get some kind of technique(all the videos seem to do it in under 2 mins and it looks easy as *&&*), I tried for 4 hours and was still defeated by the back cover removal of the iPhone. Nothing worked. I can get the black part off, but the rest is almost impossible it seems. I butchered the battery cover. And no way have I made any progress on the aluminum back... I managed only to bend it out on accident. Anyways. Can you help me?

I really would do it myself if I could only remove the damn back cover.. because the rest looks like a simple removal of a few screws and unplugging of a couple of cables, which appeared simple enough....
So unless you know some great secret technique that will help me figure it out, I am going to need your help.
Thanks in advance

Update: got it open and followed One1 advice, switched out the motherboards and I now have 1 fully functional iPhone instead of 2 broken "parts" iPhones. Thanks!
