ok, i got an iphone from fred durst's brother (yes, from limp bizkit) he tattoos at the same shop as me.
anywho,
NONE of the audio works.
i.e.
i did the test to see if the screen goes black when placed to my ear (thinkin it was still in headphone mode) but it works fine.
so i know its not the headphone sensor.
and the earpiece works fine.
headphones work too.
just no audio through the external speaker.
so you are saying, i can send my phone with a $10 replacement speaker to you and you will replace it, for a tip?
what about return ship?
more info please.

You have no idea what the problem is, and neither do I until I see it.
Ironic though, I've spent years hitting the mute button when I hear limp bizkit........

Ok I have 2 useless iPhones that I want to combine to make one working iPhone...
One has a busted screen that is cracked, but doesnt respond to touch. Other than that, it seems to work like a charm. You can call it and it will recieve calls. You can sync it and load firmware on it. But the screen and digitizer are toast I guess.
The other iPhone has a perfect screen, but somehow it the phone will not work. At first it was just a message about the phone will not make or recieve calls.(working fine then out of the blue its crap)... says to contact apple for repair. I tried restoring, and the first time it took a custom firmware which runs bootneuter to unlock for tmobile.. well it froze in bootneuter. 20 mins gone. Had to hard reset. Now it wont take firmware. It would go about 75% then give me error 1011... now since 2.2 came out it wont restore at all, and gives me error 23.
Called apple and they swear its software based, but I talked to you and you said its hardware. Ill go with what you said being an electronics tech as opposed to a telemarketing tech CSR, and also I feel like Ive tried everything.
I was trying to follow your advice and swap out the motherboards, but after obsessing and watching youtube videos tryin to get some kind of technique(all the videos seem to do it in under 2 mins and it looks easy as *&&*), I tried for 4 hours and was still defeated by the back cover removal of the iPhone. Nothing worked. I can get the black part off, but the rest is almost impossible it seems. I butchered the battery cover. And no way have I made any progress on the aluminum back... I managed only to bend it out on accident. Anyways. Can you help me?
I really would do it myself if I could only remove the damn back cover.. because the rest looks like a simple removal of a few screws and unplugging of a couple of cables, which appeared simple enough....
So unless you know some great secret technique that will help me figure it out, I am going to need your help.

Update: got it open and followed One1 advice, switched out the motherboards and I now have 1 fully functional iPhone instead of 2 broken "parts" iPhones. Thanks!

Its fun to watch this post. Ive been fixing 1gens for the past year.... and by the looks of it for too cheap!
One1, you ever found a way to sucessfully adhere a new piece of glass to a working LCD and Digitizer on a 1 gen iphone? Ive tried transparent adhesive sheets, glue and epoxy. Adhesive sheets dont go on clear and the epoxy and glue only work sometimes if the glass sticks to the digitizer.

Might as well just leave that one alone. The machine they use to do that only works in one direction, the ON direction. Their machine uses superheated material to melt it in then they drop the LCD on after the digitizer cools. Last I checked on that machine and material it was about $12,000.00

No such thing as digitizer replacement. Buy the whole LCD/digitizer/glass on ebay. They are getting cheaper. I saw them for $138 today.
