I just want to be clear. I'm all for having a go, and that's why I was willing to let this one slide this morning before I went to sleep. You'll learn a lot by getting a hold of PSDs with styles that you can study, but modding existing "flattened" (png etc) artwork will only teach you so much. This is a simple text based icon with one glyph (the "box"), so it's a good starting point to re-create from scratch. The metaphor and the layout in this case, was done for you. Please don't take what I or anyone else says as disrespectful.... as we're just trying to help with feedback. Also never hurts to respect the original creators work....I'm not saying credit everything...but in certain cases it'll get you a long way with certain private PSDs etc (ask dmick)

Hunter S Thompson retyped the works of Hemingway and great writers, just to feel what it was like to write those words.....and the man went on to created a genre, "Gonzo Journalism".

Also I may have taken it the wrong way a little. Only a small few know the true extent of my PSDs and Ai documents. At times they can be described as a little obsessive. Even the layers are methodically named, as I don't have room for thumbnails in a 150 layer PSDs I take a lot of pride in this passion, and I offered to extend that particular icon to you (which is one that's close to me). I also get a lot of repeated requests which can only be described as impatience and it shows a little lack of thought for the week long process some projects take. So as said, when you posted the icon you modded, I may have taken it the as a sign of impatience. I tend to get to almost everyone's request, and answer all emails and PM's. My inbox is rarely full, and I'm always willing to help, but that has the unintended outcome of backlogging all the "ToDo's".

Sorry for the rant..... here's a reward. Sent to DjeTouch to add to Fuel box, or I can send the PSD to him, if modification is needed. Thank you.

    Impressive, Sketch. Thank you.

And I want to reiterate that I'm sorry for saying what I did right away to Ossie. I feel bad about that.

I have managed to add images to the psd file. Like my Miami teams. Did this awhile ago. Trial and error. Still trying to "fuelify" icons

I should have copyrighted "fuelify" all those many months ago and waited for the royalties to come rolling in.

I do think of you each time I write it and see it so does that count as royalties?

Ossie, you've asked a few times about using the psd and I've meant to give you some tips beyond my initial response, but I've been busy. I treated you poorly yesterday and the very least I can do is follow up on that now. First, keep in mind that I'm pretty new to this. I dove right in as you're trying to do, but I know little about Photoshop. What Sketch and DjeTouch know, maybe I will someday, but they're years ahead of me. I'm a newbie. Second, because of that, I'm sure I'm going to make some errors and encourage others to let me (and you) know where I have gone wrong even if I'm completely full of ****. I learn by doing and part of doing is telling others what you know.

I took a look at your recent screen and thought the Miami Heat icon would be a good place to start. You did fine, but it's one icon that gives me the chance to show you several styles DjeTouch provided within the Fuel psd.

Inside the Fuel psd, you see that DjeTouch gave us several styles: White style, Yellow style, Red style, White style with light border, White style with border, Style (the two go together) and he also gave us 3 bases to work with (they're self explanatory). I used a vector logo as I'm trying to learn Illustrator too, but you can do the same thing I've done, which I did not spend much time on as the process here is more important, with a transparent png logo that you can find online. Be sure to look for the highest resolution images possible when doing this.

Look at all these styles and save them. To do so, double click the layer and click new style and name it appropriately. You'll use them a lot. It's the core aspect of creating a Fuel theme beyond the base that's already been provided.

I wanted to use 3 colors from that logo: the brown/red basketball, white ring and orange flames. I turned the white ring a light grey so I could use my most common and favorite style (style, the two go together). The basketball lends itself nicely to the red style and the flames to the yellow style.

Select these aspects of your logo image and only those colors. Use the quick selection tool or magic wand.

To keep things neat, create a new group and call it Miami Heat. Copy and paste your selections (ball, ring, flames) into the psd and resize and position appropriately. Select the ball and apply the red style layer style that you created from DjeTouch's Red Style group. It will turn a vivid red color and you'll notice that it's been used frequently in the thread. Select the ring layer and make a copy of it (command + j on Mac, Control + J on PC). Now, go back and look at the Style (the two go together) group. DjeTouch provided two layers in there (Up, Down). The layer style on top must be on top of the other). Apply these layer styles, in the same order, to the ring layers. Now, finally, select the flames and apply the Yellow style layer. It will look something like this (maybe even better if you spend more time on this one than I did).

I hope this helps and I hope I didn't steer you too far in the wrong direction as you try to learn PS. However, it's important to note that these icons are often many layers and while Fuelify ™ is a great word, it's usually not as simple as Fuelifying ™ an icon that's already been created. Good luck.

Apart from the small group I talk to outside of MMi, I don't really know too many.

Sk37cH: Sketch (I'll answer to this more often than my birth name, though you will sometimes see my name pop up on MMi).
Dje Touch: Jerome (just don't call him DJ... as stated, he's NOT a music producer)
