If this is a fixed image (not a weather background or timed wallpaper) I would be in photoshop turning it into a nighttime image, then you could use these as day & night images in the day_night folder, they would automatically change at sunset/sunrise, but you have to remember to also activate the day_night walls in the css file.
Sorry ian sometimes do not understand English well, ok Greetings

My understanding of this is if you use WOEID (gps off) and your city isn't correct, you can switch this on and it will get the city name from the gps coordinates, but how can it do this if GPS is off.

Maybe I completely got this wrong?

The other thing I notice is:

I am in Guangzhou (City), but my actual location is 40 minutes drive from Guangzhou, somewhere called "Dongguan".

Now, if I switch off "UseNeighborhood" I get the weather for Guangzhou, and it matches the Apple weather app for Guangzhou.

BUT.. If I switch "UseNeighborhood" on, I get a city name called "Lougang District" which doesn't match the Apple weather app (Local weather city name is correctly named "Dongguan) and the weather info is still taken from the city "Guangzhou" which currently is 2 temperature difference and forecast is very different.

So what I'm saying is, even when the city name is close to your location using the "UseNeighborhood" switch, your weather info can be taken from quite a distance away.

Is it possible for the widget to get actual "Local" weather the same as the Apple weather does instead of from the City?
How/where does the Apple weather app get the correct local weather conditions when our widgets don't.
I know some of you will say "mine matches" the local weather from the weather app but that is just because you are close to your City name, mine usually matches pretty good but now it is clear to me that our weather is actually NOT local.
Hi Ian, i can answer on UseCityGPS and UseNeighborhood options.

    1) Both are working ONLY if GPS is set true. I must explain better in the Config.js...
    2) No matter the option choosen, the weather will be the same : it's just a display option. The weather will be always gotten from the unique locale code given by the coordinates.

If UseCityGPS is true (and only this one), the city name (display on the screen) is taken from the City node we get during the WOEID request (geolocalization service of Yahoo).
If UseNeighborhood is true (and only this one), the city name (display on the screen) is taken from the Neighborhood node (or county if neighborhood == null) that we get during the WOEID request (geolocalization service of Yahoo).
If both options are set to false, the cityname is taken from a second request on Yahoo, the one that permits to have the locale code from the WOEID.
If both are set to true, same result as only UseNeighborhood option set to true.

    Clear ?

Ian, to add to Dacal's clarification, if you go to the yahoo developers site and do the test for the JSON request, you will see what it returns for whatever location you are using to so the test. Dacal is correct in that it will not change the weather reporting, only the response for the city/neighborhood.

In this example the neighborhood is null, but you get the idea:

    Thanks David, Brian,

So the next thing, do you know how the weather app gets "local" weather & can we?

Brian, can you give me a direct link to where you test this?

For the local weather, an interesting thing is to look the com.apple.weather.plist file...

Unfortunatly, this file is encrypted (you can't read it with JavaScript directly), if it wasn't, no need for a GPS application...

One year ago, we have tried (with Durben, if i remember well), to write a code to use it. But it's not possible.

We presume that WeatherIcon tweak is doing that... But no reply from the dev.

If someone is capable to write an application that can do a copy of an unencrypted version in /var/mobile/Document, we should be able to have the exact same information as native weather application and the GPS app will be useless (maybe, because not sure this file is updated automatically when location change, but probably only when you launch the weather application or the notification center).

How do you know it's wrong, do you actually have to look outside instead of looking at your phone.

In the mornings I always look at the phone to see what the weather is like, Iv'e completely forgotten how to look outside, it's just so "oldschool", your showing your age now Gunny if you can still remember how to get the weather by looking out a window.

Haven't found the plist file yet but can we not just copy the plist file to a Mac, open it with Plist editor, then save it as XML file and copy it back to the phone?

Iv'e heard of people doing this with other encrypted plist files on the iphone, but this was a loooong time ago.

Edit, NVM, stupid me, the file is changing all the time.. duh.

    Default Partly Cloudy/Windy
Just finished another new condition: "Partly Cloudy/Windy", (had this condition a couple of times here in China) this one proves the spin & flip works well with the fade & float!

Your gonna love this one, looks great and runs very smooth.

Ignore the weather description, just me testing this animation.

    LOL..
I am thinking about speeding up the balloons a little and rotating them slightly clockwise so it looks like the wind got a hold of em.

The leaves don't just simply float fast across the screen, the are all over the place with the spin & flip animation. Actually I disabled the flip so just spin.

I am a bit of a noob and I am wondering if there is any way to convert a uniaw theme to work on the iPad?

    Thanks ahead of time.

If I had an iPad I would do it but I'm sure someone will do it soon enough.

Your gonna love this one, looks great and runs very smooth.

Ignore the weather description, just me testing this animation.

I'm already working with the iWidget version for iPad to make it work with options for scaled to Portrait mode or Landscape. It will be too big a project for me to make anything for Winterboard with autoswitching for Portrait and Landscape. Beyond my coding skills. But I think I can get the iWidget to work and all the Containers resized for iPad. Ian, I may PM you with some coding questions. King and Drifter will help me if you're busy. I want to give back to the community after all I've learned now. So Drifter --- DON'T BEAT ME TO IT THIS TIME, dude! LOL!! Please let me try.. LOL!!!

Ian, just to give you a little of the back story, in case you don't remember, "Native" weather had an issue where the location name, or city name, does not update unless you open the stock weather app. When we approached David Ashman about possibly creating a substrate for us to hook into, he never responded, but a week later he was selling his "Forecast" tweak which in essence does what we were asking him.

Now I'm not trying to accuse anyone of anything here, but we can all add.

I still think that to be able to hook into the native weather info would be the best solution, but we would need someone with some tweak writing experience.
Widget-Weather App Now Available! Also with MyLocation Support!
Check out the thread here - Widget-Weather
To install the Widget-Weather app, just go to Cydia and install. This will also remove MyLocation, as it is built in!
Want to protect your JailBreak! Add this repo http://cydia.myrepospace.com/iLEXiNFO/ & Install "iLEX R.A.T."
It will allow you to bring your phone back to a fresh jailbroken state!

    Thanks Brian,

Yes I remember that now, thanks M8. Guess some folks just don't like sharing like we all do here.
