Icon Bump. I'm not too happy with this one. I've lost count of how many hours I've spent on this icon. At least 10-12 on the original icon I did for the christmas gift icon set (which I've not released yet, so no flaming for "not being original", when I do), and another 3-4 hours today. This was way outa my league, and worth taking into consideration that I only started making icons for Flite....nothing before then. I'd like to thank ulysseleviet for the icon templates, and motivating me to do better (although IMHO, I made it worse):P I learnt what doesn't work tho;) Thank you.

Also I'd like to share my recent attempt to push myself into unknown territory. This is Schnedi's "m! Radiant iClock" that we put together. I threw some PSDs his way, and about 20mins later he had a widget, but then he went 1 step further and animated the gears. Here's an icon sized version, with only 3 gears, modified to suit Themis. Credit and Thank You's to Schnedi most of all, also everyone I learnt from, to be able to mod this, and ulysseleviet for the icon PSDs. Now like I said....I don't do much with widgets, so pleeeeaassee, if you can offer any suggestions for file formats, or what percent an image should be displayed at (the icon looked bad until I made it a bit bigger), etc..I would greatly appreciate any advice. Thank you.

This is an iWidget, so for those not familiar, you'll need eldwins iWidget tweak already installed. Although if you're unfamiliar, I'd stay away from this particular iWidget, because who knows what I've done:P
1.) Download Schnedis Themis Radiant iClock [Animated], from HERE.
2.) Unzip and copy to var/mobile/Library/iWidgets
3.) Activate by long hold on the springboard

You're definitely being hard on yourself mate! IMO your icon looks awesome and the iwidget looks and works great! I'd maybe try get some shadows on the gears but that's just the OCD in me

Although not true (I've seen your work, and it's a unison of minimalism, and detail), it is a bit of a morale booster. Sometimes the hard reality hits, that I only know a very small portion of what is possible with these design programs. Thank you for your feedback.

I'm definately my own worst critic. I'll try read about adding drop shadows through a web-kit. I tried to do it in the image, but I don't think you can put any distance on the shadows, for it'll look upside down when it rotates? Maybe. I'll definately look into it though Thank you for your feedback. Much appreciated.

You're spot on about the shadow rotating, but I don't think think you need much distance/depth on it because things like gears wouldn't create much of a shadow...I just thought it might add some definition, and help make the gears etc appear to be above the clock face... so, like I said, it's the OCD in me

I have no diagnosed symptoms of OCD, but you'd swear by looking at some of my PSDs, that there's a little something weird goin on upstairs. Not sure if you saw this, but it's a good example. The hidden layer called "Shape 3" is actually a shape, that contains all those paths above it. I do it like this, and then dissect it into each component, so everything is lined up as if it where 1 object. Also the meticulous naming and grouping that goes on and on, down that long list of layers. I normally have about 20 icons to a PSD (simple glyph based), but now I'm working with lots of objects, that each create their own light source, or shadows, I have only enough mental capacity to deal with 1 icon per PSD these days:P

I was most critical about the cloth. I know I can do better, but I couldn't find the free-form tool that lets you push irregular indents into a path (I'd say such a thing exists). I ended up doing it by adding more points and handles to the cloth, and adjusting them by eye. You can see the original cloth I drew, but it is very simple, and a bit too minimal.

I have the shadows on the clock cogs nearly sorted. I ended just adding it to the image. I owe some inspiration to the Boss iOS clock hands for how the gears turned out. He has an ingenious method of using a subtle drop shadow with quite a large offset. But he split it up in a way hard to describe....but extremely effective!! I've worked with nearly every free clockify theme there is, and never seen it done this way. So massive thank you to him for giving me a handy tip The clock cogs could be saved as smaller images. One of them is displaying at 10% the actual file dimensions. I'm sure that 25% should be plenty big enough, so I'll see at what stage I start loose quality (referencing the full@2x screen cap). Thanks for your feedback. I admire your work, so I really do appreciate it.

Thank you. Like I said above, still needs some fine tuning, but I only have Notepad+ and Chrome, so it's a little slow on the learning curve Schnedi's code was really easy to work from, so I owe it all to him.

wow! Looking at that, you are so way above my league mate(i do everything in gimp )...your attention to detail is impressive so i really hope you stick around on these threads because i get the feeling you be sharing some awesome stuff if you do

i haven't checked out the Boss shadows but it sounds interesting and i'm keen to see how you've done it..i just played with it quickly myself and ended up with what you see in the screenie below..i chucked a glass overlay over the clock too just for the heck of it

and Schnedi=awesome! he's a great guy and MASSIVE contributor on MMi, and his coding is always clean and an awesome source to learn from..

on another note...damn, i love the loading gears for this theme!

I love that glossy overlay! I think when I sort out some kinks, I should push myself a little further and try to add options. Normally it's easy if the options are there already, I can duplicate them no worries, but from fresh, well I'm interested in knowing if I can achieve this.

+1 on the loading gears, which is the main reason I stuck with this iWidget, because I thought with a little work, it could compliment it nicely. Blue clock cogs??....another option maybe Thank you again for your help, feedback, and kind words of encouragement

Gimme a few and I'll send you yours/Schnedis widget back. Already added options to it for my liking
    Change clock, turn shadow on/off
You'll also see a different size for the clock (icon) BG. This is because of the icon shadow. The icon itself needs to be wider on the transparent background to fit the shadow properly. Otherwise it shrinks it and is a bit smaller than the actual icons on springboard.
Should give you enough if what you need to add to it.

For an all around drop shadow on the gears you can set drop shadow to -90 deg, distance 1, size 8-10 and it appears to be uniform all around. Play with the choke at 2-5 depending on how you think it looks.

Another way is to duplicate the gear twice (2 more layers) move them under the main gear layer, fill 0%, and add a 90 deg drop shadow to one and a -90 deg to the other and save as that. Then the shadow appears all around

*Check pm Sk37cH added options to yours and gave details on how to change them.

I'll roll like this until I make some other clock faces for myself and decide on clock hand color that works best for all. Redid the gears quick in PS

Was messing with the flipclock lock. Little iWidget lol

i ended up adding the gear shadow by making 3 separate images of just shadows, offsetting them by a pixel down and to the right, z-indexing them below the gears, and putting them on the same animation as the gears themselves.. does that make sense? so the shadow basically stays where i want it to lol...

Flip clock looks awesome by the way!

Thank you my friend. I'm having a look now. I really appreciate the help, because sometimes I feel a little lost in all that code:P Thanks again

And yeah, always gotta add options to my widgets so if I was changing that one already why not send it back. Allow for Sk37ch to add more faces and some other stuff.

If you're running separate images for the shadows and a separate animation for them you're making the widget do too much work unnecessarily. You can just add the shadow layers to each gear itself and run only the one animation. If you look at my screen you can see the shadow. I only added a few px shadow to each quickly to see what it looked like scaling down but can easily be done to add more on each.

I'd put out the flip clock but it was just a simple mod of Ulysses lock. Removed background image and scaled the widget to half with basically one line of additional code so can't really share it.
Can send to you if you want to see what I did. Similar to the cube but just scaled the whole HTML with another using object data. Lazy mans way....lol

No worries. If you need help with anything let me know.
Uses JavaScript (in this case php) to add the lines of script to change the icon as well as remove/add the shadow. The rest is what I sent you to be able to change the icon/face
Think I forgot to mention not to use the shadow on the icons you make as its a separate layer now.

Guys, I still don't have much time to spend on my device and here because I'm still with family (eat, sleep, eat, sleep,...).
Going back home tomorrow, and on holidays for one week left so I'll find some time to be more active here and to prepare major updates on Thémis and Truxe too.
Anyway, I can read what you guys here post and what awesome work is being made with Thémis.
Thank you all, especially Durben and Sk37cH. Thanks Alfroggy, King_O_Hill, nateD and cl1ck4207 for keeping posting and helping everyone.
    I'll be back soon.
    Cheers

edit : I just had a look at the dropbox you opened for Thémis cl1ck4207... Awesome work buddy! Thank you very much! The first post is updated with a link to it! I hope it will stay opened for ever Thank you!
