    Default Alternative to SummerBoard
    Hi modders

Here's a nice lil find allowing for different shaped icons to go alongside one another, together with icon transparency (with the wallpaper showing through icons).

Here's a link to the theme.

    Download, unzip and place in
/var/stash/Themes.XXXXX/ (where XXXXX are random characters)
Drag up, activate and respring in WinterBoard.

    EDIT :
Sino accidentally hinted me towards the fact an existing theme actually incorporates such blank files for that purpose. And it's a very well-known one too : GlasklartHD by non less renown @maxrudberg.
Available on the modmyi repository in Cydia, one of the default sources.
I verified today and Glasklart does have a similar setup in regards to app icon masking.

You may know that the com.apple.mobileicons.framework bundle of a theme dictates the shape of icons on SpringBoard. Well, until now, I knew of only two methods you could make use of in order to reach that effect :
    as in
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileIcons.framework/
adding an underscore before the file name
    • Using the good'ole SummerBoard mode of WinterBoard (or a DreamBoard theme)
Does the job, while being RAM-consuming
Requires the icons to be named per-language in the 'Icons' folder
I played around with the com.apple.mobileicons.framework bundle of my theme, replacing the AppIconMask@2x~iphone.png with a fake image.
I created a file in iFile, as you'd create a folder, but chose its property as 'Regular' instead of the default 'Directory' (as for folders), and named it the required AppIconMask@2x~iphone.png.
This empty file mimicking an actual image did the trick in WinterBoard, hence my sharing it here.

    DISCLAIMER :
this theme add-on, like a manual rename of system files would too, will prevent icons from darkening on being pressed, which requires getting accustomed to, as you've certainly gotten used to that visual confirmation of an app actually having been triggered. Toggling SummerBoard to 'on' with the application icons named as shown on SpringBoard, both with and without the @2x before the .png appendage doesn't have that particular drawback, and allows for icon sizes above the 114x114 pixels and 118x120 pixels, WHILE having a negative incidence on RAM.

    Credits :
The wallpaper, the phone icon and its keypad are elements from the incredible auros theme by henftling.
The page dots are from gaBzii.
The dock is Sino's StrokeDock, available on his goodies blog. Be sure to check this guy's incredible free wallpapers.
The crisp Safari icon is from The Circles, Retina iDevices theme shared for free by Jackie Tran
The Tron-looking N icon is a webclip Jahooba installs with his futuristic Neurotech HD theme.
The artist's palette icon is available here.

Thanks for the reply, I recall NeurotechHD to call for instructions regarding manual edition of the system files.
Worth giving Jahooba's thread another check

It's alright man, I wasn't offended in any way. And I don't claim to be the first to find that solution through WinterBoard

To make it more clear, you should put an SS to be easy to be seen from all the threads...the pic will give an idea of what the thread might be...the icons to be BIG and clear.
Maybe changing the name of the thread in..Use Any Size Icons..
My suggestion in a positive way.

    EDIT :
Sino accidentally hinted me towards the possible existence of such blank files setup for masking purposes within the very popular Glasklart HD theme.

Downloaded this huge file in Cydia since and I can attest Glasklart does incorporate the blank files in its com.apple.mobileicons.framework bundle.

Too bad this trick isn't stickied for visibility...

so its just a transparent image that allows you to overwrite the masking function?

the only downside to this for myself is that when i create custom icons i still like to have a mask for appstore icons otherwise theme support ends up being crazy as thousands of custom icons are needed. It would be nice to figure out a way of having the best of both worlds. i am not a fan of summerboard.

    Good info though!

    Hi GaBzii !
In fact a clear image would turn all icons transparent.
This neutral masking here is achieved by putting fake images ; blank files named as images (given the .png extension). I should make this clearer.
    Thanks for passing by !
