Thread: Native Weather Widget
03-31-2012, 09:35 PM #1Native Weather Widget
Introducing Native Weather Widget (beta). Changing weather widgets as we know it!
What is Native Weather Widget?
It is exactly what it sounds like. A weather widget that pulls your weather widget directly from your stock iphone weather application. So if you have it set to live weather, thats exactly what you will get. If you have it set to a specific city, thats exactly what you will get.
How does it work?
A while ago David Ashman came out with WeatherIcon which uses LibWeather to pull the native weather information and put it in a plist stored in the cache folder. This weather widget gathers that same information that weather icon does but displays it in a HTML formated weather widget, that is FULLY customizable from by the user (editing CSS and html code required for customization).
What is required?
WeatherIcon free from cydia, this will also install LibWeather. Weather icon is needed at this point as it is the program that will call for LibWeather to refresh the cache file that stores the native weather app info.
We are working on a solution that will just do this in the background rather than needing weather icon, however LibWeather will always be needed.
This is in beta and there is only one issue that we are aware of at this point. Right now everything works perfect with weather info (temp and condition) updating when you have live weather on and are changing cities. For some reason we cant get the city that is displayed to change. If you do travel outside of your city and would like the city to change you just need to open the weather app quickly so it can fetch that info.
Even though the city does not update when traveling outside the city that is labeled on the widget it still does pull the correct weather info for whatever city your in.
We are tyring to resolve this issue but we all have very limited programming knowledge and take time and learning
Just added in beta 2. BIG thank you to Ian (creator of UniAW) for letting us intergrate it into this widget
myself (subywrex - finding the way to implement native weather)
Dacalme - Completely overhauling the code adding language and animation options
Durben - cleaning up code, and over all layout of the theme (using his full screen layout)
Ian Nichols - letting us integrate animated weather from UniAW
David Ashman - Creating LibWeather and WeatherIcon
Notable mentions -
Crazy - for the inspiration for making this widget when he came out with the very popular GPS Weather Widget
Max Pain - weather images and alpha testing
Pinoy - weather images and alpha testing
Again everyone remember this is in BETA and we invite EVERYONE to use the beta in hopes to find any errors or any issues with this. If anyone feel they can help make this better in anyway (not appearance but coding) please email me [email protected].
Here is the link to download beta 2
change log: beta 2
-Animated Weather (can turn off in config.js)
-completely redone animated weather elements.
-multi step day and night backgrounds for different condition when animation is enabled
-added in high and low for the current day

Additionally this widget is completely open source and we welcome anyone to use it in there own themes. All we ask is that credit is made where is due

Love the native weather. I've integrated GPS UniAW into the lock and SB and changed the blue to pink, and added ticking seconds. And changed the weather images to the HD ones that belong to Schnedi and his most recent FS SB.
Credits to Subywrex, Durben for native weather, Ian for uniaw, Schnedi for images, and crazy for GPS. And any others I've forgotten.
