Download the .zip or .rar file. Get an FTP program like WinSCP or CuteFTP Pro and log on. Go install the FTP program. When it asks for the IP, go to Settings>Wi-Fi, then click the blue arrow and it will show the IP. In the username and password, type "root" for username and "alpine" for password. When you get to the system files, go to Library>SummerBoard>Themes, and that is where you put the folder of the theme. After you're done with that, go to SummerBoard and select your theme!

k i down loaded the WinSCP, under sessions, i put my IP as host name, left port as 22, username: root, Pw: alpine. Than do i put the zip file under private key file? and do i have to unzip the file before i put it in? because the zip file has all the .jpg in it.

You have to change all the .jpg to .png or the iPhone/iPod won't read it. Yes, you need to unzip it. The theme folder needs the folder...here are the contents in the theme folder:
1) Main folder (theme)
2) Contents (needs "Dock.png", "Icons" folder, "Wallpaper.png")
3) In the "Icons" folder, all the icons need to be .png.
EDIT: In 1.1.1-2, the folder is in the private/var/root/Library. In 1.1.3-4, it is in private/var/root/mobile.

he might not have open ssh installed
.... in that case open installer and make sure you have bsd subsystem installed and then after, install open ssh and then retry all those steps again....Last edited by GrandmaPearl; 03-21-2008 at 01:25 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Unzip the file and then upload it to the phone in SMB.

In 113 and 114 the Summerboard folder doesn't go in root it goes in var/mobile/Library . Make sure you set your permissions to 755.

How to SFTP Winterboard themes
1. install OpenSSH
(from list of apps available from Cydia)
2. install winterboard
(from list of apps available from Cydia)
3. Get a SFTP program to SSH to your iphone from your computer
(MAC FuGu--Wiki Guide / PC WinSCP--Wiki Guide)
4. SFTP settings: Server will be your IP address of your iphone, User = root, password = dottie or alpine.
(get your iphones IP address from Settings->Wifi->click the arrow next to the wifi network you are connected to. you'll then see your IP address)
5. Winterboard themes go in /Library/Themes/ , this is the directory you'll place your themes. each theme should have it's own folder.

Thank you broomhead. That was right to the point and worked flawlessly until the point where I copy the files to.
How is it possible I dont see any files/themes I've got via Cydia under Library/Themes?
I extracted a theme and copied the folder to Library/Themes/ but cannot see it in Winterboard.
edit: Found it! It is under root/library/themes!Last edited by SiNUS82; 10-13-2008 at 04:21 PM.

So, do you need to be connected and have a good signal with wifi for you to see the IP address?
