iPhone iOS 4 Theming Tips
Please use this thread to post how you found out what needs to be modded / created to theme different sections areas of the new iOS4. I will update this post as we find more or if posts are made. Note: If winterboard gets an update and things change we will let you know as well.
1. Auto Create Icons
Create this folder and in EACH of your themes that utilize auto create....
/private/var/stash/Themes/theme.theme/Bundles/com.apple.mobileicons.framework
You just need to put the "AppIconMask.png" and the "AppIconShadow.png" that was originally in UIImages into the new location. This does not skin the Phone, Contacts, iPod, Mail, Weather, Calender, Photos, YouTube, Notes, Settings, Clock, Text/SMS. This also doesn't change the quick switcher icons unless you have all your icons themed in the icons folder.
2. Auto Skin Folders
To Auto skin the Folder or "Category" icons Create the icon of your choice and name it FolderIconBG.png and place it in the...
/private/var/stash/Themes/theme.theme/Folders/SpringBoard.app
or
/private/var/stash/Themes/theme.theme/Bundles/com.apple.springboard
3. Change the BackGround image of the folders.
You can change the background inside a folder. You need an 320X480 Image, name it FolderSwitcherBG. Place it in
/private/var/stash/Themes/theme.theme/Bundles/com.apple.springboard
4. Icons now have a shadow affect to them. For now thanks to wim66 you can do this... "download attached"
Create transparent WallpaperIconShadow.png and WallpaperIconShadowT.png and put them in
/private/var/stash/Themes/theme.theme/Bundles/com.apple.springboard
5. UILCDBackground.png is now named as BarLCD.png and BarLCD_T.png
They are also in TelephonyUI now instead of UIImages.
/private/var/stash/Themes/theme.theme/Bundles/com.apple.TelephonyUI/BarLCD.png and
/private/var/stash/Themes/theme.theme/Bundles/com.apple.TelephonyUI/BarLCD_T.png
Some Image specs and what they do
Thanks to MaxxyBoii2K10 for this useful info. Post 42
Location springboard.app (/system/library/coreservices/springboard.app) or com.apple.springboard depending on how your theme was built and sometime required in both spots.

Consider the thread stuck...what do you want it renamed to? Can we get some sort of consensus?

Just went to the AT&T Store to check the new phone out -- VERY nice... I'm glad I saved a lot of my psd's for my themes... I use layer effects mostly to create my theme images, so I should be able to turn off the layer effects, resize the base image to double it's original size and then turn the layer effects back on to fit the bigger screen resolution... does that sound like it should work? What are you guys that have started theming for this new brick run into on that front so far?

Are the AppIconMask filenames and everything the same? .....Sorry, the entirety of your initial post didn't show up until I refreshed. Now I look stupid...

So when you create the folder, do you have to put the App Icon stuff in it or is it still in the UIImages folder?
-
06-24-2010, 07:57 PM #16
And just out of curiosity, where do I look to find out for myself how they've organized the new filenames and folders and such in iOS4?

So what about the AppIconOverlay.png? Does that go into the folder or into the UIImages folder?
And will anything happen if you put the AppIconMask.png and AppIconShadow.png in the com.apple.mobileicons.framework folder and the UIImages folder?

Thanks for starting this thread.
A few things I have dicovered is you now you have the right size dock.png even if using a tranparent dock, I used a 320x90 size dock.png to replace some that were 320x20 and it kept the dock icons from falling off the springboard
Another thing is info plist in your theme to make to customize docked icon labels now makes the lables fall off the sb
if you place them all in to both folders, it makes that part of the theme compatable for both 3. and ios4 firmware. I already did it to mine and a few people tested it already.Last edited by flybritn; 06-24-2010 at 09:18 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

It also appears there may be options for beginning themes for the iPhone 4 and maybe iPad? Higher quality icons, and landscape mode.
