What do you mean by theme status update?
Bit cheeky of me to ask, but can you give us an idea of what to expect in 2.0? And if any other mods are on the way?
Thanks

Okay,
First off, let me apologize for my lack of involvement lately. Even though the semester is over, I still found myself to be heavily lacking time due to an increase of my hours at work (the hospital I work at is now at full capacity!!!).
Secondly, my major project and event of the month has been New Years Eve. I was the host of a charity event being held as a New Year's Eve party - 150 guests, open bar, and dance. Not only was I one of the ones orchestrating the event, but I was also in charge of the presentations, and the DJ for the night. The event was held to raise funds for the Typhoon Ondoy Relief efforts in the Philippines. This event was a huge stressor, but was a tremendous success.
Now that I explained what's been going on with me, let me get down to what you guys want to really know about - NeoStyle 2.0.
I'll admit, I'm at a block. Fortunately (and unfortunately) for me, my level of quality has increased tremendously with each theme I've released, as it should. As a theme designer, I not only create graphics, but innovate design and push the boundaries of what was thought to have been the threshold of iPhone theming. To a majority of you, it's simple graphic replacements. But what most fail to understand is that with every great advancement in iPhone theming comes a plethora of theme's resembling the "new" and decompensating the "old". A prime example of this would be iNav. What "appears" to be a simple graphic replacment (which is, in essences, what iPhone themes are) transcends the navigation and interface of what we come to know of our iPhones into something new, fresh, and truly individual. The iPhone theme world changed with that release and has brought about even FURTHER innovation. With these innovations comes even more demand of "individualism".
Cars stock with custom parts, computers at sell with custom graphics, from facebooks to myspaces, and from dorms rooms to work offices; we strive for individualism and making what is ours and what we take pride in appear in a way to "represent" us. The iPhone theme community is no different.
The bar continues to be set higher and higher, and I have to continually reach that level. 2 out of every 5 people I see with an iPhone seems to have it jailbroken - and half of those people use WinterBoard. During my Christmas shopping pilgrimage, I actually observed iPhone retailers with their own personal jailbroken iPhones - using NeoStyle!
This community reaches far and wide. I've managed to see my themes as well as Zausser's, Baroverbeats', H0CKEY's, and other theme designers' themes on foreign websites. We are the hub of theme creativity - most of the other communities are just "3rd party support" for our ideas (I said "MOST", not all!).
The past two weeks, I had to step back on a lot of my "hobbies". I felt overwhelmed with work, pre-med, theming, DJing, computer repair support, video-editing, 3D rendering.... the list goes on! Work and pre-med alone take up a great deal of time, and I don't think most of the community understands the amount of effort that goes into these themes. This is why nearly all theme designers thank and appreciate each other, because we all know what it takes to make these things.
Stepping back, I realized that iPhone theming, whether for better or worse, is something is seriously enjoy. I don't know why. Maybe it because I look at my iPhone all the time, and when I see it look exactly... and I mean EXACTLY the way I want it to look, it makes my day. I even get matching cases for my themes! Also, the support from the community is huge, helpful, and really lifts me - even on the "bum" days, which have been way too prevalent as of late.
Now comes my predicament of quality. My themes have always been about innovation, pushing the boundaries of what the iPhone is capable of. We went from simple graphic replacements to having elaborate navigation and UI. My lastest feat is no different - with NeoStyle 2.0, I am almost expected to generate change. I have yet to make a complete UI. This is heavily due to the fact that UI theming is heavily restricted; therefore, innovation there is pretty difficult. I'm learning more about UI theming from Zausser's "X", so I'll FINALLY be able to deliver there!
NeoStyle 2.0, which is slated to be called NS2 for short, is honestly only about 15% done - with a majority of the CSS work behind it. I have spent countless hours not necessarily working on the theme, but learning HTML and CSS. Keep this in mind, I am NOT a HTML coder. I have no need to learn this stuff but only for theming. My new widget will be designed with OTHER theme designers in mind, creating a widget template that is EASY to use. NS2's widgets were practically redone from scratch in order to accomodate several innovations.
One innovation is layers. Currently, WinterBoard essentially supports 3 layers: Wallpaper/HTML, Page#.PNG, Icons (Dock.PNG and Statusbar.PNG are remnants of SummerBoard). I have expanded the Wallpaper.html to include it's own set of layers. WinterBoard will continue to treat the Wallpaper.html as one layer; however, this change's benefit will be fully realized with the next innovation: animation.
Ever since I began iPhone theming, I've dreamt of an animated and vibrant interface. Having had recently came out of a failed business venture in video games, I've been aching to relive the feeling I've had when I was developing the interface to my game DanceTrax (arcade game). I made a small attempt at this with iNitsua Homescreen - which had proven early for its time as it created tremendous lack on my iPhone 3G. With the newer models sporting higher RAM, this can now happen! NS2's coding already has this function implemented.
Now, comes the hard part - motivation and inspiration. With several issues going on with my personal life, motivation - needless to say - has been waning. I'm hoping with my greater stresses of the year passing and finally 2 weeks of work and ONLY work upon me, I'll be able to search for the motivation and inspiration needed to pass this through.
I typed up a LOT more stuff, but lost it when my laptop died >_<. NS2 is slated for release by the end of January and it is still shaping to be that way with the semester starting up around that time as well. Thank you for being patient with me. I'm not as fast as these other themers. I honestly don't know how they do it. I feel like it takes me forever to make these things and they just whip them out and are still awesome! I hardly have time for theming anymore, and when I do, it can take up a whole day just to get one line of coding JUST right in my widgets (for NeoStyle 2.0, that is).
So, I guess, in closing.... Pardon my dust, I'm working on NeoStyle 2.0 =P

In the end, its just themes, not life or death. I know that. Career, family, school, health then hobbies. I admit I was irritated trying to make this awesome theme work for me and needed some help. I am not even a creator or modder and I have pms in my box I havent even answered. I guess hiding behind a computer makes it easier for me to post dumb things. I apologize for being immature. Hell, I bet i'm older then most here! Anyway, I often wish the all my posts had a self-destruct timer. Maybe ibnyaffa can build me a bot for that.

I know there is nothing better then learning new things like coding but hell delegate those projects to Ibnyaffa, dude codes in his sleep. Your the architect and engineer, let him do the electrical and all us common laborers can hammer out icons and such.

hold the icons till they wiggle, press delete for those apps but dont delete them. The name that comes up when the "do you want to delete xxxx" is the name the icon should be. for appstore its App Store with the space

I have done some minor chances on the albescent theme and think that it looks exactly how I want it.
Big thanks to marko111 that came up with the idea to use two docks to the icons on every page.
I have changed the background so it is more comfortable for the eyes. The favorite games and apps pages have got the same color as the pages before.

Went back some pages and see how you have done it.
Indeed that the background looks almost identical.
Funny though, didnīt know that you have posted it before.Last edited by Ishue; 01-05-2010 at 10:38 PM.

I made a poll regarding theme installation. I would like you all to participate in it as it is helping me with new themes.
How is your preferred method of setting up WinterBoard themes?
