Asus Challenging Apple for Tablet Supremacy in Japan
Although Apple has seen a tremendous jump in market share across Japan in the last twelve months, surging iPhone and iPad sales haven't been sufficient to keep all competitors at bay, especially in the increasingly competitive tablet market.
New research from BCN shows that Asus has been defeating Apple in the tablet sales department. "Taiwan's Asus sold more tablets in Japan than Apple in the January-June period, its first time in the top spot for the half," Nikkei reported this morning, citing figures from BCN.
One of the major factors contributing to the gains logged by Asus is pricing. The average price of 20,000 yen -- $195 -- for an Asus tablet is roughly half the price of a rival Apple iPad in Japan.
Notwithstanding the price gap, Asus has a loyal following of users who rave about their quality tablet experiences. So it looks like Apple has its hands full on two fronts -- battling a competitor that makes a quality and more affordable product.

ASUS makes nice computers, but unless you're paying iPad prices you won't necessarily be getting iPad quality. Their laptops are the same.

What exactly is iPad quality in your terms? I won´t pay $800 for an iPad when my $400 ASUS tablet does MORE than an iPad, even a jailbroken one.
Their laptops aren´t all the same. They have a gaming line, consumer line, and a business line.
