'Imperium HD' is a Nice iOS 7 Multitasking Alternative to the iPad
A little over two years ago, we showed you the Mac OS X Mission Control and LaunchPad-inspired Imperium jailbreak tweak, which was an App Switcher alternative for iOS 5 by iOS developer Akhil Tolani. Now, almost two years later, the developer is picking up where he left off with an iPad version of the tweak called Imperium HD.
It's worth mentioning that the iPhone and iPod touch version of Imperium we showed you over two years ago has been updated and polished for iOS 7 already, but this new project for the iPad is actually a separate tweak, and is friendly with all iPads, including the iPad Mini and full-size iPad. Unlike the iPhone version of the tweak, which supports iOS 5 through iOS 7, the iPad version only supports iOS 7.
Shown above, you can see Imperium HD. It has a darkened transparent interface. Once opened, you can press the Home Button to exit it.
There are three pages to the tweak; page one shows your recently-used applications with close buttons for closing them (you can also close all applications with just a swipe), page two shows shortcuts to some important system applications, along with toggles and music controls, and page three shows all of the applications installed on your iPad (you can scroll through all of them), along with four favorite application shortcuts at the bottom that can be configured by the user.
The toggles you get are for Airplane Mode, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Rotation Lock, and Location services, while the shortcuts to important system applications are for taking quick photos, finding song lyrics, searching Google, and sending quick e-mails.
Imperium HD adds a preferences pane to the Settings application where you can configure the behavior of the tweak, configure your favorite application shortcuts, and choose whether or not it can be accessed on the Lock Screen:
Imperium HD is Activator-based, which means you'll have to assign the tweak an Activator action in order to use it. You can head over to the Activator preferences pane to choose the Activator action that you want to use with Imperium HD:
Imperium HD is definitely a cool way to take advantage of all the canvas space the iPad has to offer, so if you're interested in an App Switcher alternative to what iOS 7 has to offer, it might be worth taking a look at. It's available in Cydia's BigBoss repository right now for just 99¢.
