New Smart Covers Expected to Accompany New iPads
With Apple expected to unveil its next-gen iPad next week, we're hearing more chatter today that the Cupertino, California-based tech maker will simultaneously unveil a new series of Smart Covers at the same time.
Of course, the refresh of Apple's Smart Covers is not a surprise. Most industry sources and analysts believe the iPad 5 will boast a lighter, thinner frame with narrower bezels that more closely resemble the look and feel of the iPad mini.
"Given this change in size, we believe this will provide Apple with an excuse to unveil a new Smart Cover and drive an upgrade cycle for this line of cases (also an upgrade cycle for non-Apple branded iPad cases), which we believe is an attractive margin product for Apple," says Cantor Fitzgerald analyst Brian J. White.
"Essentially, if you own a case for prior versions of the iPad, you will need to buy a new case for the iPad 5," White added in a research note published Monday.

Apple's naming scheme for iPad is seriously messed up. They want it to become like the iPods, with the name just being the generation number. But it's just confusing now that there is an iPad mini and an iPad 2.

The fact that they have stopped numbering them is beyond me. When you ask someone what iPad they have...they have no idea hahahaha! "its the one with" "its the one without" hahahaa! Come on Apple get the name game right.
