Report: Don't Expect Retina iPad mini in 2013
Apple's next-gen iPad mini likely won't gain Retina display until 2014. That's according to the latest knowledgeable supply chain chatter.
On Friday, China's Economic Daily News reported that the chances of a second-gen 7.9-inch tablet reaching consumers this year are slim to none. Corroborating earlier reports, shortages of the updated display panels are compelling Apple to push back the release until at least the first quarter of 2014.
Although Apple has a penchant for refreshing products at least once a year, it's possible that an 18-month gap could exist between iPad mini releases. This, of course, wouldn't be unprecedented in the enchanted realm of Apple. Let's not forget the comparable gap between releases of the iPhone 4 and the 4S model.
But as the holiday shopping season approaches, this might be bad news for Apple, given all the other small-tablet options on the market.

No retina = no purchase. I don't want a full sized iPad and I won't buy a non-retina Mini. I'll just keep waiting. My iMac/HTC One combo are good enough for now.

Love my mini how it is. Don't play games that even need retina. But will buy it when ever it comes out.

That sucks, why Apple will do that? is it because PS4 and Xbox ONE are coming this Holiday? are they afraid their sells will not reach their expectations?

I love my iPad mini. This sounds like good new from a selfish perspective. It helps to prevent me from spending more money too soon. Upgrading with a 2-year product use cycle should be good for me Now, I can tell the mini is not retina, but it is not an issue. Funny thing is, I got an iPhone 5 the day it came out (lucky timing, just stopped by the apple store after lunch to a single digit line), and the mini in December; I rarely use the iPhone!

No reason Apple should bother with a refresh. What is it going to have? The first iPad Mini already has the thunderbolt port. I would wait for Retina as that is worth waiting for.
