Default Apple Ups iPad, iPod Prices in Japan

Yesterday, without much fanfare for understandable reasons, Apple made the decision to raise the price of iPads and iPods in Japan.

Although Japan is an important market for Apple and one in which the company has exceptional brand recognition among tech savvy consumers, Apple was compelled to adjust prices to offset the impact of the yen as it keeps weakening against the U.S. dollar.

Apple now sells the iPad Wi-Fi model with 16 gigabytes of memory for 49,800 yen ($493), compared with its previous price of 42,800 yen, according to Apple’s website. The iPod Shuffle music player costs from 4,800 yen, compared with the previous starting price of 4,200 yen.
    iPhone prices were not changed.

"We made some pricing adjustments due to changes in foreign exchange rates,” Takashi Takabayashi, a spokesman for Apple in Japan, told Bloomberg on Friday, after word of the price hike was initially confirmed by NHK, Japan’s public broadcaster.

Because Yen value is dropping fast, that is why Apple up prices on everything.
Just about anything imported to Japan cost more now.
This way Japanese company can compete against Korea...
Thing is why isn't Japan made cars cheaper in U.S.??????

Because they know what we are willing to pay and they need it more than ever?

Silly question, actually: It's because their cars are more expensive to make for them too. IOW, they are the same in dollars, more in Yen. That's the very definition of a currency's value dropping.
