Default LG Display May Begin Production of Retina iPad mini Panels in June

LG Display is reportedly now just weeks away from initiating mass production of Retina iPad mini panels.

Delivering one of the highest tablet resolutions to date, NPD DisplaySearch analyst Richard Shim tells CNET that production is much closer than some in the industry previously expected.

"We should see the start of mass production of the panels in June or July," Shim revealed during the new interview. "Samsung is currently not in the iPad Mini and they won't be in the next generation. LGD is becoming a much bigger supplier than before."

The 7.9-inch Retina iPad Mini will have a resolution of 2,048x1,536, Shim said. That gives it roughly the same PPI (pixels per inch) as the Retina screen on the iPhone 5...
"We're going to start to see a bunch of tablets [coming out] with a pixel density over 300. At a certain point it will be hard to discern that improved image quality," Shim added.

it's Looking Like Apple is beginning to Up the Ante, but to be honest i don't think most people will notice the difference.

So Apple have dropped Samsung and gone to LG. So next year we will hear a lot of lawsuits from Apple that LG have violated so they can get their money back like they did with Samsung.

The extremely high PPI/pixel density is purely so that there will not be another new resolution for app makers to support, so discussing it like it was done to push things into a new territory with diminishing return value is silly.
