Default BlackBerry Supposedly Working on iPad Competitor According to Leaked Roadmap

BlackBerry seems to be ready at taking another stab at the tablet sector, as a leaked image pointing towards a supposed product roadmap, showcasing a potential iPad competitor slated for a late 2013 release. The image appeared originally in a recent tweet from @BB10Leaks and appears to show BlackBerry’s forthcoming products through the second quarter of 2014. In addition to the already released Z10 and its hardware QWERTY keyboard sporting counterpart, the Q10, the roadmap points towards a “phablet” and phablet-like device with a hardware QWERTY keyboard of its own.

The supposed iPad competitor appears to be named the B10 but no further details were provided on its dimensions or specifications. The only thing we know is that it looks to be a large tablet similar to that of Google’s Nexus 10 and Apple’s full-size iPads. If the device materializes, it would represent BlackBerry’s second attempt at breaking into the tablet segment.

The Canadian manufacturer has released a 7-inch PlayBook tablet, meant to provide enterprise-minded customers with a more portable alternative to Apple’s iPad. Due to poor software implementation and developer support, the PlayBook was doomed to sluggish sales while Apple’s tablet continued to move on up. Eventually, RIM’s inventory of unsold PlayBook units caused the company to take a $485 million charge.

The launch of BlackBerry 10 has shown the manufacturer some encouraging signs though. BlackBerry’s most recent financial figures revealed one million Z10’s shipped since the device’s launch in February. This along with the combination with drastic cost reductions has helped contribute towards BlackBerry’s first profitable quarter in quite some time. A new tablet would help flesh out the range of devices that BlackBerry offers, making it a more capable alternative for customers looking outside of Apple’s iOS platform and Google’s Android platform.

If the roadmap turns out to be accurate, BlackBerry’s tablet will be released some time in either the third or fourth quarter of 2013. This would be followed shortly by a large-screened BlackBerry 10 device dubbed the U10. One thing we do know for sure is that we’ll need to be patient to find out.

Blackberry already tried to release a tablet and while it was spec'd well there was nothing available to install on it. Nothing can compete with the App Store's quantity and quality.

And at blackberrys current time line to make a decent device/os they will be nothing but a distant memory! They should return to their core market and forget about competing with apple!

When I first got my playbook I was disappointed - the is was buggy and connecting to wifi or Bluetooth was hit or miss. However the latest release has fixed these issues.

Still falls short on apps of course but its definitely a decent platform now

Bought a Playbook a while back before I bought an iPad. Nothing is going to restore my faith in RIM/Blackberry.

I just recently borrowed a friends playbook and it's awful. I don't know what I am supposed to do with it other than surf the web or get email. There are no apps either so I have no faith in RIM either. I'd rather take a cheap android tablet than the playbook.
