I think you guys are being too judgemental. I let my 6 and 4 year olds play on the ipad whenever they want. It's just another game console. Granted I restrict the content via settings... BUT I think it's foolish or deceitful on apples part to make the AppStore password unlock for X amount of time after its initial entry. It should by default ask you to enter it each and every time a purchase is initiated. Instead they count on the consumer to figure this out, often when it is too late. It's like they purposefully set it up for failure. I think safety should come way of default and convenience should have to be setup by the user as opposed to the other way around. Just my two cents.

They should, but it would cut part of their revenue.

Yeah, I can see in the video that his little uniform has a badge and it's a uniform. He still has on a tie, etc. Mom still wore a Carhartt hoodie for her big picture. What's your point? I made mine.

Then you'd be as foolish as he was. School uniform/suit. What's the difference? He's dressed with a tie and his mom has on a Carhartt hoodie.

Oh...I'm sorry.....Does your mom have a Carhartt hoodie too? Oh my....

There lucky apple gave them there cash back, my iTunes got hacked & a crap load of others use IAP through a game/app. I was told tuff take it up with your bank (was not so blunt but that's basically what it ended up as) granted it was only 310 + another 16 transactions for 10 gift cards, I ran out of money :-( poor thieving bastards, I'm just angry I had to go through fraud teams & shite like that to get my money back & these peeps get it from apple :-@

Also my kids have my old iPad first gen, that they play on locked the hell down with restrictions & jailbreak tweaks, all apps removed that are not needed for kids.

Also I use iTunes vouchers now, they will never get my card details again.

That's the reason why children shouldn't play with smartphones, tablets, etc.

Maybe try spending some time with your child as he plays on the iPad. What a great bonding and learning experience. Just handing it to him and telling him to get lost is disaster waiting to happen. They are indeed very lucky they received a refund from Apple.

I'm so distracted when someone is saying their lines, and the other person is moving their mouth to them.

They'll probably have a dozen more kids since they can just blame their problems on others. Go parents! Commence Idiocracy!

My 3 oldest each have their own iPods. Plus I have my iPad 2 and my wife has the iPad mini as well as our iPhones. Not a single unintentional purchase. On the devices my kids use I setup parental controls and turned on the option to require the password immediately instead of the 15 minute window. Parental controls are pass coded. And of course the biggest reason my kids cant do something like that, I'm a parent and pay attention to my kids instead of letting the iDevices babysit them. These parents got what they deserved.

They look confused even in the picture... Anyone that would go on TV or internet for something like this are dumb, it's just not a good way to be remembered.

Why? That much money in in-app purchases is ridiculous. There's no reason for Apple to default to letting the password stay in effect after it's typed in. It's not like the kid took $2500 worth of stuff from a department store. It's freaking 1's and 0's. You could just reset the data, give the money back, and everything's back to normal.

I agree with you very much. Perhaps a page should be taken from the book of web browsers. Don't "remember" passwords by default, but instead perhaps only if the user specifically sets it to remember for x amount of minutes (and maybe have several expiration times to choose from allowing one to choose their own balance between convenience and safety.)

    I noticed that too.

I read about this this morning while eating breakfast, for me I thought it was funny as hella, not the kids fault at all IMHO.

Exactly right. It's unfortunate that corporations set things up in a way that is beneficial to them, rather than to the users they are supposedly serving. It's hard to do the right thing when there is a significant monetary incentive to pushing your decisions into a gray area where narrow perspectives can justify something that would never be considered the right thing to do when looking at the bigger picture.

Now I do not advocate ignoring your children. Who the heck would. But c'mon, you can't spend every waking moment with them. You guys ridicule parents when their kids do something foolish as if your so much better. As if your kids have never made a mistake. I'm sure you made mistakes when you were kids. Did you blame them on your parents?
And also the whole kids shouldn't use iPads or smartphones argument? This is the year 2013. Times are changing and you have to keep up with technology and the world. That would be the equivalent 100 years ago of a bunch of people discussing how terrible it is that parents allow their children to sit around and read books. I'm glad my children know how to use computers, phones and tablets. It means they are adapting to the world we live in and won't be like my dad whom still can't figure out exactly how the DVR works. Maybe I'm bias because I've always been into tech, but aren't we all? Is t that why we are on this forum?
