Round of iPad Refreshes Expected for March
Apple is set to unveil a 5th generation iPad and 2nd generation iPad mini this spring. That news comes not from Apple, of course, but from Brian White of Topeka Capital Markets. The trusted industry analyst claims his sources and supply checks also indicate that a refresh is just around the corner.
Dating back to late December, the rumors of a new slate of iPads are heating up, particularly coming out of CES in Las Vegas this week where everyone has been set buzzing by the prospect of dazzling new tablet technologies. Although Apple's penchant for endeavoring to stay one step ahead of the competition is well-known, some would be surprised if Apple pulls the trigger on a refresh so soon after the last round of iPad launches.
"The iPad mini is essentially still brand new," tech industry analyst Mike Randazzo tells MMi on Friday morning. "I would expect an iPad 5 in the spring, but not an iPad mini 2 just yet." White suggests that an "iPad 5" would be thinner than the most recent model and deliver the A6X processor.
What could the new iPad mini offer so soon after the 1st gen release? The obvious answer is high-resolution Retina display. But even White isn't ready to say that Retina display is something the iPad mini 2 could deliver so early in 2013.
Nonetheless, there is a growing presence in the Asian supply chain that joins White in the belief that Apple will update both the full-size iPad and the iPad mini within the next two months.

They probably called the iPad 3 "the new iPad" specifically because they knew the market forces, like the switch to Lightning, necessitated this flurry of minor refreshes. Not sure what's forcing their hand this time though. Perhaps they want to hurry up and get everything off of Samsung chips? You know what else fits this model? Cheap new cut-down iPhone as opposed to an older model that contains Samsung's chips and the old connector.

Rumors, rumors, rumors!!! Local ABC channel broadcasted that Apple was coming out with low cost iPhone. I started to laugh and couldn't believe they would broadcast something like that without actual proof or fact from Apple. Looks like news media will broadcast anything fact or not! Pretty sad if you ask me!!!

Too soon. They've lost their touch in terms of timing hardware updates. Even if the new Mini has a retina display, there will be people who just plunked down at least $350 for the Mini they have who will skip it, and staying current with the full iPad is becoming a joke.

They will most likely release a new full iPad, this will continue the 1 year cycle.
and don't say the iPad with lighting was a new generation because it wasn't it was only a minor update

I hope they release a new iPad because I get a new one each year for my birthday!

People are desperate for apple rumors. Choose something that has happened in the past or is a reasonable/history of refresh lengths in time. Make a rumor about it. If it actually happens which is usually a 30%+ chance they take credit and act like geniuses when anyone with half a brain and google could figure it out..

Originally the iPad was the first iDevice to use the A4 chip followed by the iPhone 4 and the iPod Touch 4 and AppleTV 2. The iPad 2 was the first device to use the A5 chip followed by the iPhone 4S and eventually the iPod Touch 5G and AppleTV 3 and then the iPad mini which makes it the most popular chip in iDevices today. A5x is iPad 3rd gen only as the A6 is iPhone 5 only and the A6x is iPad 4th gen.

LOL, remember when Apple used to laugh at how fast Android devices refreshed...and now they do it themselves. Kind of like when they said there would never be an iPad mini.i Apple seems to be in the job of copying these days, eh?
