Apple's iBooks 3.0 Update Pushed Live
Apple pushed iBooks 3.0 live tonight, making good on Tuesday’s keynote announcement.
Users can download the updated iBooks from the iTunes App Store and take advantage of the improved iCloud integration, the new scroll feature and other social media oriented perks.
The new iCloud integration shows purchased books across the users entire line of iDevices, offering a seamless reading experience, much like Amazon’s Kindle devices. The new social features are very Kindle-esque as well as users are now able to share a favorite quote via Facebook and Twitter.
The new “infinite scrolling” allows users to scroll vertically through the entirety of an entire book, doing away with page turn animations. The feature will likely make reading books on the smaller iPad mini, iPhone, and iPod touch a less arduous task.
Perhaps the most important added feature though is the addition of 40 new languages to iBooks. Now Japanese, Chinese, and Korean readers can enjoy publications in their native language. Honestly I’m surprised it took Apple this long in adding Chinese support, considering the potential market, and well, most of their products are manufactured their.
