Apple May Kill iPad 2 to Ramp Up 'iPad mini' Production

As MMi has reported in recent days, Apple is widely expected to unveil the new iPad mini next Tuesday in anticipation of the device's formal market introduction on or around November 2nd. But with supply issues already hounding Apple's iPhone 5 production, Apple is said to be ready and willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that the iPad mini is available in ample supply.

One possible move on the part of Apple is to pull the plug on iPad 2 production. Analyst Rob Cihra at Evercore Partners revealed this week that Apple will likely cease production of the second generation iPad in order to concentrate on manufacturing the iPad mini.

Unlike Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray, who this week estimated that Apple will sell approximately 5 million iPad minis before the end of 2012, Cihra believes that the Cupertino, California-based tech giant will sell close to 7 million iPad mini units during the 4th quarter.

Following the launch of the iPad mini, Cihra speculates that Apple will only sell two iPad models - the 7.8-inch iPad mini and the current third generation 10-inch iPad.

Nah, if you've looked closely, Apple sues regardless if the size is similar.
