Default New Amazon Tablets Not Expected to Impact Apple

During Thursday's grand unveiling of Amazon's new Amazon Kindle Fire HD tablets (not to mention the Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Paperwhite 3G offerings), the company clearly adopted an unmistakable tone meant to suggest that Amazon will now better compete with the likes of Apple in the tablet market.

As MMi reported yesterday, Amazon's Kindle Fire HD 8.9" 4G "isn't just the best tablet for the price," Amazon says, "it's the best tablet." Not surprisingly, some think those are fighting words. If so, however, no shortage of industry analysts today are saying that Amazon's fight may already have been lost.

“Net, net, we believe these new tablets are not likely to gain much ground on Apple’s market share,” Kerry Rice of Needham & Co. told clients this morning. Shaw Wu with Sterne Agee chimed in to add that he sees Amazon posing a bigger threat to Samsung and Research in Motion than Apple.

"Apple still rules the tablet world and we believe the soon to be launched 'iPad Mini' at a $250-$300 price point (possibly a bit lower) will expand the company's addressable market opportunity significantly with a 7.85-inch tablet, and potentially even surpassing sales of the regular-sized iPad," Brian White with Topeka Capital Markets said.

According to White and other leading analysts, the iPad mini and Apple's traditional iPad have few if any serious competitive threats to worry about as 2012 winds to a close.

From a pragmatic point they'll get some people away from Apple: $25 a month for 4G iPad or $50 a year for 4G.

Thought about getting one of these, but I want the Sony tablet with built in infrared controller, for me just that universal remote is worth getting the tablet.

The Kindle Fire captured 20% of the tablet market in just 9 months. Id like to know what fool thinks that 20% market share in 9 months is no threat.

The Kindle Fire was a stripped down piece of garbage yet it sold more than all other Android tablets combined--why is that?

So if the Fire sold like hotcakes why would anybody expect a better one to sell even less? because of an iPad? people who want the iPad are going to buy the iPad no matter what comes out or how much better it may be.

I think the Kindle Fire HD will have a huge impact on iPad sales, it's cheaper, the 4G has lower data plan prices, if you have Amazon Prime, you get a whole mess of cool stuff, such as streaming, eBook Lending (even with out prime you can checkout books from the Library and yes, there are apps for that on the iPad, but it's not the same as being built-in), etc.
