Chinese Prosecutors Finally Pressing Charges After Teen Sells Kidney for iPad

Last year the story of a teenager in Southern China selling one of his kidneys in order to purchase and iPad made its way through the headlines. Now, nearly a year later Chinese prosecuters have charged five people in an intentional injury case.
The boy, only referred by his surname Wang, now suffers from renal deficiency and his condition is deteriorating. The surgeon who performed the surgery and four others are being prosecuted according to the government-run Xinhua News Agency.
Wang—from the extremely poor province of Anhui an extremely poor province— used the money gained from the selling of his Kidney to purchase an iPhone and iPad. Wang admitted to having the surgery after his mother questioned about where he got the money for his iPad and iPhone.According to the Xinhua account, one of the defendants received about 220,000 yuan (about $35,000) to arrange the transplant. He paid Wang 22,000 yuan and split the rest with the surgeon, the three other defendants and other medical staff. — Reuters
With only a fraction of the people who need organ transplants able to get them, a black market for human organs has emerged. Those who can afford it engage in “transplant tourism” where patients travel to other countries for the necessary operations. Others are forced to extremes, and can be prosecuted as China banned the trading of human organs in 2007.

This is sad. I would never give up any of my body parts for a iPhone or iPad. Glad to see something is being done about this.

Depressing that people do this stuff just for an iPhone or iPad, that's how corrupt people can be.

Not just corrupt, but it's incredibly sad that this boy was so hard up for a few apple devices and the obvious mental affliction that this boy has to think that it was worth a kidney. The people who engages in this transaction really needed to ask themselves why this kid would give up an organ for something so simple. That's an obvious sign that he was no where stable enough to make this decision. Now this poor kid is more or less dying for an Apple device. If you ask me Tim Cook should pay for this kids life to be saved....I guarantee there's no bigger fan.
Think different......or give a kidney!

It also has to do with the small wages that they get paid. Their are so many people living in poverty in China.

Phillip I'm not sure if you wrote this or copied and pasted it from another news source but you should really work on your editing.
"Wang—from the extremely poor province of Anhui an extremely poor province—" Just read that again please.
