Default iPad Usage Quadruples Among Small Business Users in 2011

According to a national survey conducted by The Business Journal, Apple’s iPad continues to be the fastest growing technology in the small business market as the usage quadruples in 2011. The use of the iPad jumped from 9% in 2010 to 34% last year. A total of 75% of small business owners said they were “very or somewhat familiar with the device.” 1,400 business owners, CEOs, and presidents of companies cross the U.S. in companies ranging from five employees to 499 employees were sampled in the survey.

The Business Journal vice president of research, Godfrey Phillips, saw the iPad’s success as a part of a larger trend within the industry. According to him the “productivity and efficiency, which used to be the central benefits of technology, are now declining in importance compared to accessibility” which is exactly why the iPad continues to do so well. He continued by saying that business owners have turned to smartphones, iPads, and cloud computing to help them access their data wherever and whenever they want. As a result of this trend, the three solutions will continue to experience “significant growth.”

It should be noted that the demographics of small business iPad users were skewed toward the more successful. The average annual household income for iPad owners in the survey was $176,000 while 72% of the users had a college education. Companies that were deploying the iPad had been around for 28 years old on average and made roughly an average of $9.2 million in annual sales. Apple on the other hand is expected to enjoy continued success for the iPad among businesses in 2012 as there seems to be no effective competitor in the tablet market.

The next-generation iPad is set to be unveiled at Apple’s March 7th media event in San Francisco and is likely to lift the sales on the touchscreen tablet.

Lol....can't wait for the usual clowns to comment about you can't do "real" work on the iPad. This is just more validation that the majority of the commenters on these sites (MMi, Giz, Endg) are morons.
