Default More Retina Display Images Surface in iTunes U, iBooks 2

Earlier today Apple blew doors off the insane money pit that is educational textbooks in America (Change two periods, and delete a word and it constitutes a new edition students are forced purchase. Sickening). In doing so Apple fed more fuel to the fire that the next iPad will in fact have a retina display with some images found in iTunes U and iBooks 2.

The images in question are of the iBooks bookmark ribbon, and book cover images in iTunes U. This is just another example in a long line of iPadX2 images found in iOS 5, iBooks 1.2 and other applications including the Twitter integration. It’s amazing how silent Apple can remain about future products, yet slowly update their applications, and OS to support a smooth transition to a new and improved display.

The big test for Apple’s next generation iPad will be how fast third-party developers adapt to the new larger screen. Also, the number of pixels being pushed at one time will require more system resources which the rumored A6 processor will hopefully provide. The real concern then becomes the potential hit to battery life. Quad core processors are hungry, but so are new displays.

Here’s to hoping Apple finds an acceptable balance between power, battery life, and feasibility. They usually do. Actually, they’re the only ones who seem to care to sacrifice raw power for better battery life.

If the difference between the iPad 3 and iPad 2 display is the same as between the iPhone 4 and 3GS, I won't be able to refrain myself from upgrading! Damn you Apple!!

Put it this way (hope Apple is reading), I will NOT be buying an iPad 3 if it has the same resolution as the iPad 2. Otherwise, I'll be putting in my order the second it goes live in the Apple Store.
