Apple May Unveil iPad 3, iOS 5.1 at February Media Event

The launch of Apple's third-generation iPad may be closer than we think.

According to reports Tuesday out of Japan, Apple may be planning a late February media event (just days before the one-year anniversary of the iPad 2's unveiling) where the next gen iPad will be introduced along with iOS 5.1.

The rumor comes by way of a new report from Japanese website Macotakara which asserts that both an Asian supplier and a source within the United States confirm plans for the February media event.

Today's headline coincides with recent reports suggesting that the first production-run for the iPad 3 will conclude by late February or early March. As the Macotakara piece hints, if the iPad 3 is introduced during the last week of February, there remains an excellent possibility consumers won't get their hands on it before mid-March.

Although Macotakara has been off the mark on some predictions in the past, the news site was spot-on last year with its sources who revealed that the iPad 2 would arrive in March and the new iPhone would come in the fall rather than the summer.

Hopefully we won't have to wait that long for the jailbreak cause at this point I think there waiting till 5.1 officially comes out to release the A5 jailbreak dang taunters

Better camera and Siri on Ipad 3 , i think but will have to wait 6 months to a year for a jailbreak on Ipad 3.

If 5.1 is dropped in march then 5.0.2 will drop in a week or so to plug Pod2g's jailbreak and his 5.0.1 A5 jailbreak as well.
Apple traditionally plugs holes in IOS pretty fast.

Right cause you know apples code and you follow how long it takes them to release a firmware? It should be ready by March but this is Apple were talking about they could wait another 2 months on top of that just cause they can

They can still announce it just like they announced a newer version of the iOS software last Feb. during the iPad 2 announcement. Announcing the newer version and showcasing it doesn't mean it has to be ready for public download immediately. Regardless, I don't see how 5.1 is even going to be a big deal...........unless they update Siri and bring it out of it's beta release as it currently exists on the 4s?

If you are used to iphone retina display , ipad 2 does kinda sucks. I am waiting for an ipad 3 , so i replace the kindle fire i am carrying around.

Hmm, Im waiting for the iPad 3, as I don't upgrade to the iPad 2 and hope the iPad 3 can give me much more surprises, not only 4-core ARM processor and it's better can play AVI or WMA movies smoothly and then I need to do less convertings with iFunia media converter, enjoy any movies on it on-the-go!
From the picture, seems it don't have Home button?
