Monthly Subscription Game Removed From Apple's App Store
According to Bloomberg, Apple has already removed Big Fish Gamesí subscription based game from the App Store. It was recently reported that Big Fish Games was the first company to make available a game that offered a subscription model inside Ė a feature which previously had been exclusive to news apps. Apparently the whole ordeal didn't last too long though.
After the confirmation that the game was able to receive the new subscription feature and it's release, it was discovered that the app didnít actually offer any subscription inside. Paul Thelen, the gameís founder, said that his team had worked with Apple for several weeks to ensure that the app met the requirements regarding in-app subscriptions, noting that Apple even approved the press release which announced the game.
For those of you who didnít already know, the subscription model within the app was in theory supposed to give users the option of purchasing a Big Fish Games subscription for $6.99/month to play unlimited games that the publishes made available through the dedicated app. Games were said to be streamed to the userís iPad from Big Fishís data centers, requiring a Wi-Fi connection. The whole idea left many with mixed feelings regarding the featured pricing model. Apple was said to take 30% of the revenue, similar to the amount of revenue the company takes from news apps as well.
No information regarding the apps removal was provided as of yet, so stay tuned for any updates!
