Apple Reportedly Dropping Samsnung in Favor of Sharp for iPad 3 Displays

Apple and Samsung continue to battle each other in courtrooms across the globe and the animosity continues to spill over into their supplier-customer frienemy relationship. Apple is reportedly dropping Samsung as the supplier of Retina Displays for the iPad 3.
Apple will replace Samsung’s displays with Sharp manufactured equivalents. Peter Misek at Jefferies & Co. believes Sharp began production of high-resolution displays for Apple’s iPad 3 and will help build displays for the iPhone 5 as well.
Apple dropped between $500 million and $1 billion on manufacturing equipment for Sharps’s Gen 6 Kameyama manufacturing facility. Misek believes Apple and Sharp have figured out a way to avoid the thickness the dual-bar LED back-lighting solution adds to the iPad 3 Retina display.
If Apple plans to get into the TV business, the ability to produce LCD’s in a massive Sharp plant wont hurt either. Also, we believe that Apple and Sharp together have a modified IGZO (indium, gallium, zinc) technology to achieve 330 dpi, which is sufficient for an HD display while not using IPS nor having to include dual-bar LED back-lighting. In our view, this should lead to several design advantages, namely the device can be thinner, battery life should be longer, and the overall experience for users should be meaningfully improved. — Misek

50 points off for a typo in a headline in my old journalism class.

Let's take a vote. Who thinks its a complete waste of our members' time to use comments to knit pick and criticize grammar and syntax rather than contribute to the topic posted and spark debate and conversation?

This is was overdue... Apple needs to move out of their parents basement ASAP and form new relationships with other suppliers.
Wonder what Samsung products will look like now....

Agreed. Commenter's need not to be an as*hole and continue use the comment box to criticizes the author's writings. Just take simple click to msg the author of their mistake and it's done. problem solved.
About this article...I think Apple's making a huge mistake to leave Samsung for Sharp. Sharp's history of display manufacturing has been pretty decent but cannot beat Samsung's technology. Apple see the response of iPad3 users and will decide go back with Samsung by the next production. For display, Samsung is the world's best, hands down.

It seems as this is a move out of spite. Samsung makes the best displays so why go with sharp? Maybe the yellow pixel will be the big feature for the iPad 3 like Siri was for the iPhone 4S. Let me say this, the grass is not always greener on the other side.

Samsung make some of the best displays on the market. I'm not sure what Sharp's quality is like.

It seems more like a business move. Why shound Apple purchase products from Samsung and then have Samsung use that money against Apple? Talk about fueling the fire.
As for quality, Sharp can put out a nice display. But realisticly, even if the display is not as good ss Samsung would have been, the iPad 3 will still sell out within a day and will be backordered for weeks
